Finally got round to fitting my ACT exhaust over the weekend, and im very happy, it now has a deeper throatier burble and sounds sweet all through the rev range, i dont think i would go louder than this. This turns heads, but isnt annoying when driving for long periods I'm guessing my cats are still in, cause it passes the mot ok..
Come on Pinx you know the rules...Words are one thing hearing it is another Video please for our ears

How do you make the pops and bangs? I have a 450 with a act y with precats still in which I am reluctant to remove as I don't want to increase the smell of fuel or my wife won't get in it. Should I half sleeve? Don't want to make it to loud.
remove precats, mine didnt smell different at all. Pops and bangs shall be yours. And you free up horses and loose heat.I have no cats, Clive Y, standard exhaust, car mapped for a few pops.
The best way to get pops and bangs from a Chim in my experience is to rev to say 5000 in a low ish gear on a straight, then back off the throttle without any gear change to take a corner.
I managed plenty of bangs on a Cadwell Park track day last week by doing this in third gear and backing off for the Hall Bends without changing down. But the best of all was between the hairpin and Barn Corner. 6000 rpm in second gear downhill, forgot to change up, and when I backed off and braked for the tight right hander, there was a huge bang which I felt through the seat of my pants, and according to the guy behind, a huge flash right out of the exhausts.
It's all about getting unburnt fuel to explode in the pipes.
Intentionally or not.

Well it can't be all about removing the cats as mine are all still in,just sleeved and popping banging very well and not mapped in either.
However if going down a hill or when coming to stop it doesn't always pop and bang so a slight feather of the throttle and off it goes.
This for me is perfect as some of the Cerbera guy's I know just can't stop it from banging at times when they wish it didn't. So in away it's controlled.

I agree but now I have a Clive F Y Piece fitted the pops are louder and easier to produce, especially when changing up under hard acceleration. However if going down a hill or when coming to stop it doesn't always pop and bang so a slight feather of the throttle and off it goes.

I think one of my first ever posts, way back in the old days, was about the exhaust note of my 400.
A sleeved setup was tried and then a half sleeved setup and I settled for that, I was never really happy with it though and frankly wished I had left well alone.
You would have thought that I'd have learned from fitting a Janspeed sports system to my 2.8 Capri but oh no.
My current Chim came with the aforementioned ACT Cherry Bomb set up with an ACT Y piece and sounds as good as any I have heard. It doesn't have any annoying resonant phase on motorways, just retains its character throughout which is bassy rather than thrashy.
