Getting the ACT Y piece for when i take the pre cats out, thought about the ACT manifolds but are a little pricey,would it be very little gain anyway and am i alright refitting my existing decatted manifolds with the ACT Y? I do love the sound but not sure I'd want to sacrifice any horses for it and I believe the TVR system is fairly well designed in principal.

Best pops and bangs IMO, come from slightly over balanced feathered throttle on the overrun down a steep hill, held in second with an excess of Millers octane mixed with Shells Ferrari fuel for the road, enhanced with cold clear compressible air on a cold morning, easier breathing and better sound travel!
An aggressive cam and accurate fuel map adds a certain finesse to the noise of removed silencers!

Clive's Y piece to me is better made,look at his stats on his site and one would get the feeling that Clive put in many hours R&D to arrive at his finished product.you only have to look at his other work recently fearured on this forum to see that its the dog's danglers and the guy knows what he is about.Price...you pays for what you get..IMHO

Decatted with stock silencing on the back works well and is pleasant.

Wow this is a old thread !, Well i can safely say the job was well worth doing. I am very, very pleased with the results and so is every one who has listens to the before and after.
I never had any pops before i de-catted and now i get some ( not all the time though but definitely lots more than it did ). Like i have said before , im not sure if the performance has improved but the engine temp is now always good ( though i do have the cooling mod on mine ).I didn't re-map either.
I haven't got round to having the emissions checked yet, though im told it will go through . I'm sure it will help if you know the m.o.t guy quite well.
No need to remove the manifolds , i did my pre-cats with them still in place, long masonry drill bit essential though.

I may just add before i de-cated i had :
1st) standard exhaust with all the wadding removed from the silencer box. loud but to sharp and "tinny".
2nd) i had cherry bombs fitted to my silencer box, the result was a nice deep burble but now slightly quieter .
3rd) removed the pre-cats and fitted Act Y piece ( New Y piece is important though) apart from having the Main cat removed. The pipe is much narrower at the base of the "Y" shape this should prevent the "tractor" noise effect which doesn't sound good.
For me it was important to sound deep and loud more than just loud. Straight through pipes should achieve this but was not the type of sound i was looking for.

I did the silencer thing then you realise how good it is,and then you start to think about the pre-cats out then the main cat then change the trumpets etc...............its a drug and becomes more addictive.....expensive.....what am i talking about.....fun!!!!!!!!!!!Mine has gone in today for a sleeved silencer, but I'm keeping all the cats in place.
