......and I always thought it was more of an absolute figure, dependant on the weather, R-road and car drivetrain but typically 40 to 50+ (ish) bhp, with every road having slightly differnet 'corrected' readings. As has already been said wheel figures are poss a better indicator and tend to be more standard between R-roads IMHO.
AFAIK good/typical wheel figures are around 160-170 bhp for 4ltr's and 210-220 bhp for 5ltr's, again IMHO.

Engine output 218 BHP
Wheel output 161.5 BHP
Max power @ 5450rpm
Torque 233 lb-ft
Max torque @ 3960rpm
