Puddles behind the seats.

Car got stuck out in the rain yesterday at work and today i have noticed a leak either side of the car behind the seats,it looks like it is running down the hinged bit of carpet and dripping out onto the floor where the seatbelt housing is,could it be getting in where the velcro is, if so how can i stop it.

Make sure the velcro is secured properly with no bunps.
Also do you still have the rubber triangle bit on the folding roof bit which perishes. THis ensures the water runs donw the shut line between door and rear arch. Seems trivial but it cured our problems - just cut a piece from bicycle inner tube and used bostik to secure.

I've had this exact problem. Check your seals the full length of the door. For some reason mine had a deformity just by the side of the seat, which meant in bad weather the rain ran down through the deformity, over the seal and under the seat, eventually making itself to the back of the seat.
I use a black silicon resin which you can get from anywhere. Whack a good dollop of it where the velcro is on the hood. The repeated pulling on the velcro strip can crack the seals, leading to the leakage.
Also get yourself a little heater from B+Q for about a tenner. When it gets wet put the heater on it for a few hours and it will stop milldew and rotting carpets (and that musty smell)

If you look at the outside of the car just behind the door attached to the hard bit of the rear folding section there should be a bit of rubber which I believe stops the water getting in here. If you lift the rubber seal slightly you should either see it, the remnants of it, or the glue where it once was.

Interesting, I get the same problem and it has been puzzling me for a while. The elephant ear is in tact, the carpet around the seat belt feels dry or damp at worst, yet water ends up dripping off the carpeted flap that gives access to the door mechanism and wets the floor behind the drivers seat.
Recently waterproffed the hood and it does seem to have improved the situation but not cured it.

I am confused(elephants ear),when i look at the car there is a rubber seal that runs down the side of the door,i can`t see anymore seals anywhere.
The problem i can see is that water is collecting where the 2 pieces of velcro stick together, it is then seeping through the fabric on to the velcro that is attached to the car, running down the hinged bit of carpet and dripping onto the carpet,should there be something that takes the water away so it runs down the door seal or does it just need water proofing.
This is my 1st TVR so i am a bit naive.

It would appear that your car does not have a set of ears fitted, mine hasn't either. However, I understand they were originally.
I'll see if I can find you a photo of an ear in situ.

Cured most of the water leaks with sealant - but noticed that carpet by seatbelt was wet on both sides this morning
I had the exact same problem 3 years ago when I first got my Chimaera (2nd hand).
Various 'experts' advocated all manner of weird and wonderful seals and membranes, but another expert (an actual expert) basically said "bollocks. Your hood is leaking because it isn't waterproof", applied several coats of Fabsil, and it's never leaked since.

Possibly somewhere, although a recent PC crash meant I lost a load of stuff. I'll have a look.
