Well well after a number of conversations regards the risk of loosing the lovely sound of my exhaust note, all cats in, I got round to getting grit and oil in my eyes yesterday, grovelled under the car and replaced my Y for a de cat Y.

Now I'd been saying If it's a daft noise I'll go back to standard. For anyone thinking of doing it,,,,,,,,,,,Go do it now don't wait, it's flipping heavenly!
Seriously I fitted it all together, changed resistor to non cat, and nervously fired her up fully expecting a truck with no exhaust!

Blow me, initial tickover seemed barely any different, first thought that's just a weld mark and I've spent all afternoon struggling like a ???? For Nout, hang on raise the revs abit, still not bad, slightly confused I closed the bonnet and stood behind the car, burbled about the same, 1 or 2 db at most it seemed. Well chuffed.

Ok best have a drive, I'm sure they sll sound indervidual but it seems with steady driving mines really civilised. Got to open road put the lead boot down and oh boy it's much faster and the sound, well I was giggling like a Jibbering idiot! I'm going to go out in it right now to see how loud it seems with roof on and the quiet of evening, ill love it but will the neighbours!
I'll report back because for some people it's a problem to be noisy.
That's the last check but so far it doesn't appear to be like 7 to a possible 12/15 dbs louder, I am a bit mutton and Geoff though.

Pre cats still in.
Update, drove the car through town centre at 11pm with roof up, all of a sudden it seems really loud!
At 1400 revs the burble is loud, at 2000 the resonance is to much but at 2400 or roughly 70mph it's pretty quiet.

I hammered it up hill on a dual carriageway. I think the car I overtook shat himself, sound is a subtle thing but now I'm realising it definitely is a good 7/8 dbs louder which is a big difference.

I'm not sure about Clives pipe but the original de catted is louder but the note is still the same deep note, phew that was what I def didn't want to loose.

Last point. The overrun pops and bangs, I asked the engine builder why mine don't bang, his answer cos the engines running properly you idiot, lol.
So with a good engine the de cat is the same just louder pops,
So in my view only, if pops and bangs are your thing and not power/ noise alone then the cars I've heard with SLEEVED exhaust sound the best, loads more pops/ bangs per second, but then when you put your foot down you've got mad loud but not alot faster, that seems a bit daft but you can't deny the overrun is fantastic.
