Went to get a quote on front end re-spray today and as I expected its going to ne near impossible to match the faded rosso pearl. So it’s a compete re-spay in colour of choice. The body shop suggested that this would be close to original colour

but was thinking maybe something a bit different, have always liked cars in black but not sure if that would suit the Chim ?

Whats the thoughts of PH ?

Something lively that will go with the interior you have.
I always wished I had bought a yellow one.......and I am nearly 60.
Love my Starmist Blue, but talk about stealth......

Yellow or orange for me.

BTW how much will they charge for a complete colour change?

I have seen a rosso pearl car that was part resprayed - looks about perfect, and better than an original would have done.
I expect only someone who had owned a rosso pearl car for a few years would even have suspected a respray - it was 'too good'.
How they managed it, I have no idea, but I can point you towards them if you like?

V8Frogs car, I could be tempted.

Local indie bodyshop quoted £2.5 for a colour change on mine. His credentials are that he does a lot of back to bare metal classic Porsche work.

Presumably a good sprayer can match a faded colour, directly, rather than just relying on the original colour code. It would be more cost effective to go down that route than a full colour change respray.

I think QBee made a good point - get something that works with your current interior. The deep red interior is quite a classic colour scheme, so there should be plenty of pics of classic british cars with similar interior. Worth reviewing classic car pics, to see how it works with various external colours.

Here is a link to a current topic in the Classic section of the forum, with a dark blue E type with a red leather interior.

What are your current thoughts on colours, Ewan?

Looking forward to pics of more cars with red/ mulberry interiors.

So much choice....

I asked about colour change on here about 2 months ago and £2.5 seemed the norm.
Only prob with a part respray is that the original will have faded, the sprayed area matches the faded colour then that fades.
Or the "texture" differs.
Worst colours for matching seem to be red and silver
Red particularly in street lights, difference seems to be glaringly obvious.

Also remember a bare metal respray is very different to a bare fibreglass respray.
Preparation preparation preparation is the key.

Funny stuff, Rosso Pearl. I have it on mine.

Original Rosso Pearl faded with time, so a partial respray is problematic - not least because the two paints will then age at different times.

However in about 2004 I had a reasonable bump from behind and had a new 'Rosso Pearl' put on by the TVR dealer - all over.

This does not, apparently, fade (or at least not as fast) and certainly seems as good now as it was then.

So matching yours will depend upon whether you have the original RP or a later tin which seems much more sunlight-stable.

I'm in a similar position to the OP, there was a stunning metallic red Cerb with black wheels at Chatsworth i kept meaning to wander
over to ask the colour, but of course by the time i did, it had gone scratchchin

Have looked at most of the vids and photos, but can't for the life of me pick it out frown

Dunno if it was a 'standard' TVR colour, but it really stood out from the crowd.

Mine is the original Rosso Pearl so pretty faded - body shop recons they could get a decent match but may not be spot on and I know it would just annoy me in long run. I have seen some of the fibre glass work he had done and its good quality

A pearl yellow or an orange are very tempting but may have to change interior colour scheme as well of going down that road

Just doing a Mk3 headlight conversion, paint shop mixed for me and did 13 spray outs, still the colour in certain lights wont match, ok, I'm not a sprayer so give up now, however I have been given the name of a local guy, works by himself and well respected in the VW field, had a chat with him and he was talking very sensible money for a front end on mine, am going to see him next week, if his work is as good as I've been told, he can do mine.it maybe of interest to other Chimp owners as perhaps it wont have the TVR tax!
