Bonnet release cable

Now this has not actually happened - yet - but whilst fettling under bonnet I just thought " how would I open the bonnet if the release cable broke at the catch under the bonnet end?" Now that I have thought of that problem I feel that I need to know the answer and I am sure someone on here will know of a cunning method.

This worried me as well. Having had the cable break on a TR4 I know that it can be a problem especially if you are away from home and have no access to tools. I rigged up a nylon cord sliding inside a plastic guide tube and led the free end to the outside of the chassis rails next to the gearbox. Fixed a little wooden knob on the end so that it can just be reached from undeneath.
Fortunately haven't had to use it yet but I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Does everyone elses bonnet latch look like that? Mine has been slotted all the way down from the bolt holes so that it can be moved higher and has a load of big washers on it.

Mine managed to come away, just the once, in the garage whilst being worked on.
The mechanic said 'I hate it when that happens', and within 3 minutes it was open again.
I am afraid I can't help with exactly what he did, but at least one knows it can be done.

Piece of cake to open the bonnet if the cable snaps, mine did a few years ago.

Gently push the leading edge of the bonnet towards the front of the car, the bonnet flex's and the pin pops out the latch.
