Going to look at a 1996 silver with blue roof 400HC chimaera at a local main dealers this weekend, 26,000 miles priced at 16500 including reg plate N19TVR.

Anyone got any info on this car? Good/bad etc
I dont want to name the dealer for obvious reasons.

although the mileage seems low, I would say that the price seems a tad on the steep side, even from a dealer. for that price I would expect PAS, Full Hide and air con.

Why???
PAS - not needed
Full Hide - unnecessary
Air con - something else to go wrong and totally superfluous in an open top car.

What you want is a cheaper price!

Thanks Guys,
Car seems ok when i looked last weekend, salesman said he would ring with part ex figures, no return call so i rang again to see if he had chance to work anything out yet, he said no but would ring me, still waiting. i won't be ringing him again.
Looks like i'll be going down indy direction, plenty of other cars out there.

I'd have asked why it has done so few miles for it's age.

If you're buying from a dealer that's probably about the starting price - for that age and low mileage I would guess you'd be looking at £13-14k privately from a quick look through Sprint classifieds.

Privately you can knock off £2k to start with...

I'd not want an old TVR with few miles on it, if it's done very little miles it could mean it's been unreliable and not used often (dealer visits) . Or being left for long periods without being used which could cause long term problems which the next owner has to fix (more money spent).

Really? My 500 did 18,000 miles in the first 12 months (96-97). It then did 6k over six years, getting very sporadic use. This last year I put a couple of thousand miles on since PH2004, which was its maiden outing of the year. No issues whatsoever.

What major issues should I be looking out for considering my woefully inadequate use of the car over the years?

1. Fading smile syndrome; and

2. Embarrassingly low fuel bills.

Mileage comensurate with age, so about 5000 miles a year. As for service history, buy on condition!

I didnt say I wanted that, and agree that AC and Hide are unneccesary, I simply staed that for that price, I would expect it to have all the bells and whistles.

For that price I'd want a newer car with a 4.5 engine !

It'd better be bloody amazing for 16.5k at that spec/age.. I'd be paying more like 12.5k tops for it privately at the moment.

Cheers,
Matt
