Steering U/J protector
Discussion
I can't find the thread but this might be the piture you have in mind. Biggest problem I believe is how you seal the upper end as there is nothing to seal the bellows too. If you don't seal the bellows but just push it up against the bulkhead water will eventually get in and fill the bellows.
Your local trade motor factor should have a book listing all bellows for all cars so there is plenty of choice for sizes.
Be interesting to hear how you get on.

This was one of the first jobs I did on my car, not a good design having that u.j. Exposed behind the wheel.
The difficult thing is that there is only around 4mm of shaft showing behind the u.j. To get a collar on for the boot to fit on to.
I am lucky enough to have a lathe so I spun up a collar. The picture shows an approximate cross section of it.
It is a tight fit on the shaft and the boot is siliconed and zip tied on. As mentioned before you don't want the boot filling up with water. ( I have checked and no water is finding its way in there)
It's not a hard thing to make, a local engineering firm should be able to produce one pretty quickly they will obviously need a drawing of what is required. I made mine out of acetol. Good luck.
