HELP! Buzzing from petrol tank

My Chim has a constant buzzing coming from somewhere near the petrol tank. Is this the fuel pump stuck on or something? Its a slightly different buzz to the initial one you get when you first turn the key. Any ideas you good people? Thanks a lot.

I removed the cap and didn't hear any sort of whoosh. Someone else suggested it could be simply low on fuel, he said his pump buzzes when he gets low. I am on less than a quarter of a tank so am going to fill it up later and see if it is that.

On a couple of mine I used to get a sound like a wasp when I switched off. Never seemed to get any better, or worse, or do it at the dealers. Did 50,000 miles in each of those two Chims with no problem. I just assumed it was some gas venting from somewhere.

Just filled her up and am now unsure whether it's got quieter, or whether I exaggerated it in my head earlier in the day! There's definitely a whiney buzzy sort of noise coming from the driver's side of the fuel tank, whereas the fuel pump noise comes from the passenger side. I'm pretty sure it didn't use to make that noise...

Happens from time to time on mine but haven't been able to isolate the exact circumstances that cause it. It certainly isn't a vacuum/venting problem and definitely comes from the fuel pump. It seems to fix itself when the system is reset after central locking/immobilizing. Haven't been able to detect any change in engine performance while the whirring continues. It's been doing it occasionally for about 2 years so I guess it's not a critical problem.

It will be fuel pump.Once you sound into it it seems to stay and annoy!!!!

reread it and wasnt sure. In that case its just the fuel pump dont worry about it get the exhaust mod done then all other noises get quieter

I tend to get a buzz/whine from the fuel pump but only just after start up when the tank is below quarter, especially if the car is parked on a slope.

I just assumed that maybe the pump wasn't fully priming in this situation. The noise soon goes away after running for a minute or 2.

I get a constant whiring noise which I presume is the pump as it comes from under the boot. Presume this is normal for a Chim
