My radio/CD changer only works when the ignition is on - is this normal? Usually I only want to listen to this when the engine is not running! Is there an easy way to rewire it so it's on in the first position (prior to ign. on) like most other cars?

Roar on.

Quite normal for GM sourced ignition barrel, not to mention many others. Easy mod, you just have to remember to turn the thing off each time. I have been looking at a mod that would enable the usual turn off with the key, but you could override it if you wanted.Afterwards it would go back to standard. As for siting CD changer, over to somebody else(sorry iam griff).

Was looking at the same issue myself this weekend, had the cowl off and looked at wiring to ignition switch. There were spare terminals but none that powered up when key in position one, or any terminals that acted as a switch when key went to position one.

Took the radio out, only option was to switch red accessory cable at bullet to orange cable permanent live and vice versa. This gives option of having radio on when ignition off, but does not power up CD changer.Ignition still has to be on for both radio and changer. Down side is to remember to turn radio off when you leave the car, I always remove the face so is it a problem?

Would be interested in any other option.

I thought you could just wire the red and yellow wires from the radio loom together.

In other words; if you have a yellow wire connected to the car, connect this to both the red and yellow that feeds the radio.

My understanding it that:

Red is wired to the ignition.
Yellow comes straight from the live feed.

At least that is the case in my Griff 500.

Same here on my Chimaera -- same fix: twist the red and yellow wires together.

Sounds right to me... as for CD changer location - put mine in the glovebox, but then it depends on what crap you put in there and whether there is room to do so.

Is it safe to attach the changer to the fuel tank? For want of a stupid question how... surely you wouldn't drill into it??

On my Chimaera, the changer sits just above the tank, bracket mounted against the "wall" between boot and cabin...

Depending on cd changer size a six disc sits happily in one of the cubby holes behind the seats otherwise you can put on the top of or side of the fuel tank, industrial velcro sticks very well to the carpet and will not come off unless pulled very hard!!!!

Now you have me worried, my CD changer is mounted to a bracket attached to the top of the tank. It was a dealer fit when new so I guess it's fine (hopefully).

I have seen a 6 stack CD unit mounted on a small shelf under the righthand side of the boot. It didn't interfere with the hood when being put in or taken out.

If it's factory or dealer fit, I wouldn't worry...

As for the velcro route - can highly recommend it. All my CD changers have used thick velcro strips (about 1 inch wide) and they never budge. If they are out of sight, then no-one will try and nick it - and IF they do try and nick it, firstly they wont damage too much and secondly it's still bloody hard work!
