Hiya,
Looks as though I may have to replace my steering rack this winter as there is quite a bit of play in the n/s. Just wondered where am I likely to get one from and how much I should expect to pay? For once its not a part I recognise off another car and it's been a while since ive seen a rack with grease nipple's. Manual rack BTW. Also where can I get a rear number plate suitable for an early TVR. I got some privat plates for my birthday and the rear one being a normal plate does not let the number plate lights shine through.

According to this article Quinton Hazell remanufacture steering racks.
It might be worth speaking to them to see if they can help. If not they should be able to point you in the direction of someone who can.

Can't help with the rack but you can get the translucent rear plates from www.fancyplates.com whe you use the Fancy Plates constructor - it is a drop down option on step 2 of the process under Back plate:
