Done to death....
Discussion
Because those threads will be for super-duper tyres, I'm starting my own.
The rears are down to the markers now. Fronts are P6000, rears are the same.
Can someone recommend a new set of rears? I don't want mega cheap, or mega expensive, just a good set of all-rounders, preferably nice and quiet as well.
Also, if I ask the fitter (would like them done outside my house via internet) to spend extra time balancing them, does that make a big difference, or is one tyre balance just as good as five tyre balances?

P6000's???? On a performance car? Rather you than me. Made of Teflon, and slipperier than Tony Blair and Max Clifford wrestling in jelly.

I am a huge fan of Falken FK451 tyres. I have put them on all my cars for years......except the Chim. The only reason I didn't put them on the Chim is that there appears to be quite a lot of "discernment" (tyre snobbery?) in the field of tyres amongst the TVR fraternity, and I didn't want to affect my resale value by fitting "non-Pistonhead forum approved" tyres. I therefore went for Toyos, and I must say I have been very pleased with them.

Too much tyre snobbery in my opinion, Falken & Kumho have come on in leaps and bounds over the past couple of years, i've raced on both tyres in the past and they give way more feedback from "other" well known brands...

If Kumho are good enough for Nadine to do 198mph in her Viper at Vmax... they can't be all that bad...
I use Falkens on my Audi A8 - cheap, but very good performance wise. Not the greatest wear rate though, so long term maybe not the "economy" option I first thought!
On the Tiv? Well, I've had mine from new and always used S02's. TVR used to make a big thing of these being the only tyres suitable, and I always suspected this would be used as a getout by insurance companies if anything else was fitted. So fitting S02's was not a snobbery thing, just the only safe option.
I'm not sure what the position would be these days. With S02's not available, S03's not in the same league, using something else shouldn't be a problem. I'd still be tempted to let the insurance company know that I'm deviating from the factory fit because they are no longer available, rather than handing them a "get out of jail" card.
I'd use Falkens based on my experience in the Audi.

I've heard they wear also but i suppose if they are a soft compound for grip its to be expexted.

Found this in the Cerb forum, if they like 'em can't be bad.

I'm lovin' those Toyo's. I first put them on my Honda S2000, and they were the biz - especially in the wet, where they were a gazillion times better than the original Bridgestones.
My Chim has T1-S all round and they have stacks of grip, and don't seem to be wearing fast at all. I have done 6K on them, and they look new.
Could do a lot worse....
