Got mine through Norwich union after all the TVR 'specialist' insurers wanted silly money. Their price was about half that of anyone else. You will only get a decent quote from the specialists if you've had the TVR for at least a year , or been driving an equivalent type of car for the last year. By equivalent that means rear drive, 2 seats similar performance.

FYI I am 37, only 1 year NCB and the insurance is fully comp for me and the Mrs on a 5000 mile a year limit, including legal cover came to £735 - it would have been a bit cheaper but they added some for the uprated suspension and brakes. The next nearest quote was £1100 (from a non TVR specialist) and the lowest quote I got from the TVR specialists was £1600.

Age is a big concern, my normal insurance company who I've been with for years wanted £15,500.00!!! As I am now over 50 I went to SAGA (yup sad) they do it for £600.00 (not so sad now eh) Cant get my girlfriend on this insurance as she is too young!

Direct Line for us; Tesco also did a similar quote. Obviously it hinges on your age, insurance history, postcode etc, but it seems some insurers won't do unlimited mileage, cars kept outside and that kind of thing.

It really is worth shopping around: it's a real pain, but it will save you hundreds of pounds.

I got mine from Tesco, £30 more for unlimited fully comp there compared to renewal quote from the TVR specialist. Since I save by not needing to be TVRCC member its cheaper, and my mileage isn't restricted as it was. Mind you, with 7,000 miles recorded in the last 8 years that isn't really an issue!

I've just had a quote off Elephant (Admiral group). Quote came through and was quite competative, but one of their listed conditions is that any damage is repaired at a garage of their choice? I questioned this, asking for confirmation of who they would use for Glass Fibre bodied cars. They replied with an apology, stating that their underwrighters have withdrawn cover for glass fibre cars, and they could not offer me cover.

They still list TVR, Lotus, Ginetta, Reliant etc on their website, but can't cover glass fibre cars???

I hope this doesn't go against any 'name and shame' rules, but it may be worth checking this out with non-specialist insurance companies.

I picked up my first one this summer, a 4.0 as well, and having only been driving for 4 years and with a write-off 2 years ago and only 1 years no claims since I was getting a little concerned but rang Footman James based in the midlands, I can try and dig number out from somewhere.

The cheapest I could find previously was about £1350 and that would have meant swapping my 1 years NCD off my other car as well for about £100..

Rang FJ, and they sorted me with a classic car policy, £583, limited to 4.5K miles, no NCD issues as a CC pol, so can keep building that up on my second car and convert to a proper policy if needed later on

Can second FJ. Last year I got a limited mileage (4500 mile) policy quote of £470, and I'm 26. That was for a chim 4.0l.
