Does anyone have the Maplins part number for the locking solenoid for a 1998 Chimaera?

Maplins - 2 wire version (YD79L) 5 wire version (YD78K). Both are about a tenner + a couple of quid for p&p


Found in the Forums, used "Maplins" as search - last 6-months

Are you getting a buzzing noise every time you open the door? Same thing is currently happening to me - though there are no Maplins in Gibraltar where I live unfortunately. My garage has had to ask Tower View Racing to post one out to me.

Getting exactly that! Not locking either.

let me know if you manage to fix it - there is a thread on here that says that it is a pretty common problem and that all you need is a new £15 solenoid. I hope it is that easy. Problem for me is getting the parts. Please fell free to share your relief with me if you manage to fix it: [e-mail]

If you are stuck for whatever reason how about ebay?

This is a 5 wire type which will replace either 2 or 5 wire motors no problem.

I have kindly asked the guys from Tower View to post one over for me. The cost is a bit over the odds but at least it gives me teh peace of mind that the part will work properly.

Piece of mind is always worth something but let me assure you it is the same thing.
In the auto electrical game they are known as universal motors, 2 or 5 wire and they are all the same

Looks like the new door locking solenioid has fixed the problem - locking and unlocking without a complaint now.

The buzzing can also be because of a loose or badly adjusted solenoid, so worth checking before ordering
