Chim 400 vs Impreza Sti
Discussion
Last night, a 97/98 Impreza Sti was hassling my rear end whilst taking it slow over some speed bumps. Decided i would show it what my car could do. Gave him a chance and waited for him to clear the next bump, then from a rolling start of about 10mph i floored it.
Easily pulled away from the Scoob in 1st and 2nd. So there you go, Chimaera 400 quicker than a Scooby.
Do think that the V8's instant torque had a lot to do with the result, the impreza seemed to lag a bit, but it was definitely trying.
I've always suspected my Chim 400 is a quick one!

Tis annoying the softly softly approach you sometimes have to adopt. A new scoob was annoying me the other week so on the straights between roundabouts he had no chance but slowing down, going round and accelerating he could just do it so much quicker as the roads were wet. Still I'm not complaining!
Andy, I presume you see the champagne being old, the caviar black and the lobster dead?
Its all lighthearted, we all know the STi's and Evos are faster round the bends, the track, the wet etc, hey my old Lancia Deltona was faster than my Chim 500. But we all like having a bit of fun against the Evos and the M3s, and then you talk about it just like you do in the pub. jsr didn't go on the BBC and brainwash the nation to buy TVR. And yes they do breakdown and some of us enjoy fixing them. I volunteer a ride
in mine when you come back to the UK.

in mine when you come back to the UK.Hey i had an astra when i was younger...had an Audi too.
Tell you what....i have never had so much fun as i am doing with this chim and i have probably had to work on it every other weekend just to keep it going....but then in the 6 months that i have had the car i have done around 5-6k miles.
How about a line up
Chim
Astra (Race Car)
And an Audi 1.8 Quattro
Wonder which car a majority of people would want to look at depending of course on wether you had the line up at a Max Power show, Cars for Grandad, or a car show for enthusiasts...
...just kidding each to their own. Its good to have a laugh with old technology (Chim) over the latest (Evo's M3's Subaru's etc)...!!!

I've owned 2 scoobys and an evo in the past, and now have my chim, and we all know they have their individual merits. We just come on here to enjoy chatting and comparing stories, not to win prizes or to gain recognition.
ANDY MAC.... This is a DISCUSSION FORUM, people are free to pass their opinion without recieving smart ar*e comments from you. I suggest if you want to go around making wholly inappropriate suggestions and remarks then you head straight to the White House and join Mr Bush jnr on his next electoral campaign.

We all have little plays every now and then and I defy anyone one on PH to stand amd up and say that they havn't. You don't see me whinging on the BMW forum that a new M5 was pulling away from the other day, we all know the chim is not exactly Zonda fast and there are always going to be faster cars out there. Just none will sound as nice

Not sure what that was all about. The original post said "quicker on straights, slower on the bends"... Well... we sort of knew that anyway, to be honest. The old character chestnut gets brought up in these type posts all the time. A simple question about what you see as character is not some sort of gauntlel challenge. Yes, we all like having plays against other cars, but the character chestnut gets boring. It gets brought up all the time.
FYI I love grilled Lobster, hate caviar, and am not bothered by cahmpagne..I'd rather have a good red wine to be honest, or a nice vodka!

well my chim is ll years old...all i can say is i wonder how many current subarus, audi 1.8's and evo's are still on the road in 11 years time and doing the same speeds as they are doing now and beating most of the latest performance cars that will be released then??...or wether they will have secumbbed to tin worm and rotted away...???
Yes character is a fave 'old chestnut' but we can brag about character as these cars ARE all individual and DO have character. Unlike a majority of the well made, reliable, standard, mundane, average german 'sport' saloons. Come to think of it...when i am stuck in a traffic jam i tend to get a sense of pride when i notice people looking at my car...wonder how many times that has happened to people in a 1.8 Audi...unless they are looking for a Taxi???
I suppose living in the USA with the 55 mph speed limits you would not want a TVR anyway so the Audi will be ample.
Still each to their own....you have your own very valued opinion!!!

fine... You are obviously far superior to anyone else as you can insult an audi, and you own a TVR! Gee... you personify so much about 'exotic car owners' its unreal.
You obviously took an afront to my post, and it was not intended as one. I merely said that scoobies are expected to be quicker on corners, and TVR's on the straight? Of course, If I wanted to drive 1000 miles in a car, accross the US, the TVR would be the ideal choice. I suppose the 10-20 feet of snow we get in the winter, a TVR would be the ideal choice. The limit is in fact 65, not 55. thats only 5mph less than the UK... So maybe you should buy an Audi? You have proved you are a little childish. I find it amusing that you think that scoobies will not be around long, and TVR's will be... After all, they have such a great reliability record.
As for character, yes, TVR's have characters, but any car has character, its down to perception, and the drivers enthusiasm...
What your post is meant to add to the thread I'm not sure, but you come across as a little snobbish, and a little childish.
You want to know what character is?
Character is an utterly beautiful looking British sports car, based on.....itself
Character is everybody looking at your car......because its loud, and rare
Character is the incredible sound they make
Character is knowing that its always a talking point, even amongst those who know nothing of cars

My post was supposed to be lighthearted! Being a Chimaera forum for people who love their Chimaeras or are looking to get one, there is nothing wrong with praising these brilliant cars. From some of the replies above, i had to check i hadn't posted this in the Jap-chat forum
Just a bit of fun.
Just a bit of fun.
Andy_Mac...you have proved you deserve american citizenship...!!!
At no point have i said i own an exotic car...and at no point will i ever claim that. I personally think my car is average...in fact i would go as far as to say i think it is a shed compared to most other TVR's out there as it still needs a lot of work doing to it...but then you read what you want.
It was you who started saying we have got an opinion of our cars...it was you who stated that we are always going on about character being the 'old chestnut' and it was you who started to get opinionated first.
remember
then
I did not say scoobies will not be around long
i said see how many are around in 11 years time doing the same speeds as they are now and how many will have rusted away.
Also at which point did i insult your Audi...all i said was it was an average mundane car....is it not....? My mistake...where would it come in the autotrader....high peformance, luxury, prsetige...i dont know...???
Where would you put it???

I can understand why you got an Audi...i agree with you whole heartedly...a TVR could not cope with 20ft of snow...just for the record do you use snow chains on your Audi to cope with that sort of snow fall or does the Audi cope well in 20ft of snow without them...???

Again i agree...unlike you i have not really contributed to this post.
Most of the replies to this post have been in retaliation to comments / snipes made by you. So again you are right...i have contributed less to this thread as yourself.
Sorry for the length of this reply guys...
Just one more thing...i know this is a free website where people can go into whatever forums they like...but to do it with the intention of trying to wind people up with d******d comments.
Might trade the Chim in for and Audi 1.8, a race prepped Astra and a 'stick my head up my a**e operation' and still have enough to emigrate to the states.
Enjoy America...it suits you.

go on then...explain character... i presume you are going to say squeaks, breakdowns, mechanical oddities, and a certain delightful tyrait of never being predictable, and reliable.. You chaps have an odd view of character...

Have just sold my Westfield 2.0 16V monster and have just purchased a old Chimaera 400 that is in need of lots of work.
Why because the car is a class act and I have alway dream of owning one.
The westfield was a Fab car and motor bike quick. Raced it down to lemans 2005 with two honda Blackbird and had lots of fun.
BUT have always wanted a Chimaera?
