Small front number plate

I've got a Chimaera and after going to The Breakfast Club at Goodwood on Sunday I would like to get a small front number plate. Whilst I have seen them before, I saw a few Trev's with them and I'm just wondering if they are legal (or if you ever get it looked at closely by MOT or Police) and also where can I get one?? Thanks in advance
www.fancyplates.com do them - called 3/4 sized. I've had one on the front on my Griff for ages now without problem. Oh, you can velcro it on too so its easier to take off if you need to get your hand in the opening for maintenance/cleaning or track days etc. I've used 2cm wide velcro with the soft side on the number plate because thats the side that collects dirt easily.
Don't expect to get them quickly from these guys though, I've had 2 sets of plates from them and had to chase for both.

I had one on the Griff for quite a while. Wasn't a silly font just smaller, never got stopped. Always kept the full size one in the boot though just in case it was required for "sorry officer I've been to a show and forgot to swap them back - i'll do it now..." Don't know if this would have worked now though because I never had to try it 
I used the full size one for MOT though.
Have to full size one now though since the small one was only to aid cooling and I've had no issues in over 12 months with the full size plate.

I have recently fitted the 3/4 size plate and noted a significant difference in engine temperature. Fancyplates initially said that they could not do a 3/4 plate with the British Standard font, but in fact they did reduce it to fit in the end and it looks pretty convincing - I have asked a few people to look at it and only one or two have spotted that it isn't quite legal.
The full size legal plate is in the boot. "I'm terribly sorry, Officer...."

I spoke to my instructor during a Ride Drive day about this (he's an advanced traffic police trainer) and he said they don't tend to worry about this sort of thing generally, as with loud TVRs it is to be expected and doesn't mean the car is dodgy. In fact their general opinion is that most sports cars are very well maintained compared to the average car. So unless you're unlucky or do something you'll be alright. Even then unless you get rude with the officers them pulled over you won't be in big trouble.
I've driven through quite a few police spots checks recently with 3/4 front plate and decat pipes bricking myself beforehand and just been waved on by - the police know who they need to target and in general avoid us good motorists

Aparently they're illegal too. I wonder if this applies to classics (e-types etc...).
