Hi all,

Had my Chim 2 whole dyas now and love it to bits, but i've had my first coule of niggles - any advice?

1. The wipers seemed to stall at the top posititon and wouldn't budge, in the end I assited them and they parked OK, is something on the way out?

2. My heater blower doesnt seem to do anything, the switch has an audible click but there doesn't seem to be any noticeable change in noise air force? My bible's on order but not yet arrived - where do I start?

3. finally, i've just got my multi changer, I intend to fit it in the boot, any suggestions on the cable run from the dash back?

Many thanks in advance for advice given.

Hurry up sun!! I want to get the roof off!!

Concerning (3) the lazy man's route (and the one I adopted) is as follows:

1. over left real wheel arch (poke it down as far as it will go)
2. out by passenger seat bealt mounting (lift carpet & pull through)
3. under passenger seat (above ! carpet)
4. under passenger footwell carpet (lifts easily)
5. behind battery panel (easily pulls out)
6. and so behnid the dash...

I'm sure that there are more discrete ways of doing this but the above didn't take very long. The only 'visable' bit is the small section between the seat belt mounting and the seat but since this is noramlly pushed 100% back (for leg room) it isn't seen!

Interested to hear of alternative routes.

Have a fish around under the back of the dash, sounds like the hoses may have dropped orf't.

Ummm..... You have tried turning the blower knob, haven't you? It's a variable resisitor.

Not that I wish to disagree with the Big Al, but if the hoses had dropped orf't then you'd still hear the motor. Are you getting the blower type noises?

Yes, tried turning the knob and clicking it in and out, no hint of a fan running, found the fuse box (Good God!!) and assumed from the handbook it was No 14?? heater?? but it's ok. From what you say I guess the fan running should be fairly obvious? any other offers?

Jev,

That must make me a lazy man too, almost exactly the same routing I used.

I didn't do it, but that's the route that mine takes, except:

0) Cables go from changer above center of tank and immediately behind the GRP panel that covers the air vent(s)

3) Under the passenger seat (under ! carpet). Runs vertically down from access flap in passenger door "pillar" to carpet, along (just inside) the edge of the carpet, and along one of the grooves in the floor. You might be able to coax it through this with a hard-ish metal wire and some string, or similar, without lifting the seatcarpet. Then again, you might not.

7) All bets are off once you get to the dash. If you thought the fuse box was fun...

Concerning 1.... My car did this on Satrday and with a bit of assistace parked. It seemed to be due to the fact that the screen only had a few spots on it but haven't tried them since. I know that the previous owner had a new motor last year so I hope it's not on the way out again.

Concerning 3..... My mate does installs for a business and I asked him at the weekend about routing the cable as my changer is behind the passeger seat. He said it's difficult to do so guess what... being real lazy and going to pay him to do it for me. Not much help I know.

Reckon concerning 1, " They all do that sir" would be appropriate. Mine did it outside a hypermarket in France during a typically gallic shower. I 'assisted' them to the park position, and it's never happened since. Concerning 2 then, if the fuse is okay check you have power both sides of the fuse with the blower on. If not, I reckon a switch problem, but no doubt an expert will confirm or deny - Steve?

Regarding 2) I had the same symptoms. Pressing the switch and turning the knob had no effect but the fan seemed to be running at a consistant speed all the time. Turns out that TVR use an electronic control box to control the fan (why?!!), which they actually make in house. This had given up the ghost and needed replacing. Luckily this was done under warranty as replacements cost circa £150!!

Can't help with switch access, suggest the top of the dash has to lift off - no easy task I understand.

Concerning 1, " They all do that sir", common problem with Lucas wiper motors, caused by a faulty park switch that would normally keep the motor powered up until the wipers have reached the home position. Cheap to fix with a new switch, although fitting is a bit tricky as the switch is on the bottom of the wiper motor, and access is not great. Had mine replaced during a service, £20-30 ish

Thanks for all the gen, multi changer fitted and working fine, regards the heater fan, I managed to lift the dash ( what a tw*t!!) and checked the switch which is working fine, however, traced the lead to the control unit and it has a burnt out connection!! Can I get the unit checked? whats the chance of repairing the connection and it still working? and whats likely to have caused it, could he fan have caused it, if so I don't want to buy a new control unit to find the fan does it again so is there any way of checking the fan first??

Finaly, the radio has excellent reception, thought perhaps a amplified aerial had been fitted but it turns out that a previous owner has wired in a normal marconi whip aerial ( like whats on normal cars ) and layed it across the top of the fuel tank under the mat, works fine!! must be a top tip!!

Has no one got any advice on this?? I've removed the control unit and the top left pin is badly burnt and the one on the connector is even worse. So the questions are:
1. Is there a breakers yard that might hold one
2. Where can I buy a new connector.
3. Whats the likelyhood of the fan having caused it, and how can I check it out.
4. can I get hold of a wiring diagram to identify which wire is what??
