Have been thinking of having a headlamp conversion on my '95 Chimp. Having looked at some of the ones done, I tend to cringe at the look, each to their own I suppose.
I would like to have the same look as the Griff, i.e. a plastic cover that goes over the lamp. Has anyone looked at having this done, if so where and how much!!!!!!!!

You mean like the last model Chims with the perspex covers? I was told that these don't sell well by Fernies. People seem to prefer the classic look. Having said that, I saw a Chim with the 3-light conversion like you see on a lot of Cerbs - thought it looked good.

The one I like the best is the T350 conversion, you should be able to search for it there are pics in one of the threads. Considering it as a future upgrade

The garage that did this conversion was Sportmotive in Stoke on Trent - i can vouch for their work.

I'm not keen on aftermarket wheels but i loved these that were fitted to this Chim. I have communicated with the owner over past 18 months and he was lookimg to sell a few months back but i forget his name but controbutes regularly onb this forum.

I agree this conversion does look very good, has anyone managed to find out the cost as I have drawn a blank so far.

This is the reply I recieved from Ian at Sportmotive, just thought some of you may be interested in the text.
The T350 conversion consists of complete new lamp pods which need to be cut and fibreglassed into the car, new TVR lenses and the six new lamps (side light and main beam lamp unit, dip lamp unit and indicator) so the parts alone are quite expensive. To do the conversion and completely repaint the front of your car you are looking at around £1600 +vat. I should hopefully have the car we did previously on display at Chimfest so you can take a look there if you are going to the show. The Griffith style updated Chimaera front should be a lot more simple I just need to check price and availability on the exchange lamps, bezels and lenses from TVR Power first for you. To repaint the rest of the car with all panels off and painted seperately you are looking at a further £1800 plus vat. Check out our website to see what we do. www.sportmotive.com

Hmm I loved the T350 light conversion when I first saw it and it still does look great! I think i'm going to have to go down this route when I get the rest of the car resprayed next year, though at 4k for the whole lot, I should probably start saving! The only thing is, i'm not sure it would look so good on a car which isn't black... does anyone want to photoshop it to toyota purple-blue mica? biggrin

If you want to keep the look and just have better light you can fit VW Lupo headlights with a bit of work.
Pictures here:

orange Chim with chromed wheels has them fitted

Cheers Jens

On first read £1600+vat including a front end respray doesn't seem too shabby IMO.
And i have to say they look great. Only negetive i think you would need larger than standard Chim wheels to keep the modern look going.

Thanks for posting the pics of your car Goose. I liked the look of the T350 light conversion so much I'm booked in early September with Ian at Sportmotive for the same. IMHO it massively improves the look of the only tired detail of an otherwise classic design. No matter what the "Oh my God let's keep it original" brigade say, you & Ian have done a brilliant job - well done. thumbup

What headlight units does the T350 conversion use?
