Brake Calipers
Discussion
Can anyone confirm that the Granada cosworth caliper to upgrade the front brakes to 283 discs is identical to the Mondeo 1993-1996 (2.0 4x4) or the Mondeo 1993-2000 (2.5 V6). These both have the same 887/888 casting numbers, but are the mounting brackets the same as the Granada?
I have the Redrilled Granada 5 stud front discs which i am replaceing with the Sierra Cosworth 283 discs. Got a competent mechanic to do the change, but want to give him the right parts!
Cheers, Jon.

I think they are the same caliper BUT the carrier is different . I fitted the v6 mondeo st24 set up with the carrier from same and 278 mm discs and I needed a 12mm spacer .I have the Redrilled Granada 5 stud front discs which i am replaceing with the Sierra Cosworth 283 discs. If you are using the cosworth disc and carrier you will need a smaller spacer - a washer or two should do it. Next time I fit new discs I shall fit the cosworth 283mm they should just squeeze in there and reduce the spacer requirement.
OK, Having now spent 2 whole days looking into this!! The following all have the same caliper part number: BCA2166/7 casting ref 887/888:
Granada 2.9 24v Cosworth 1991-1995
Granada 2.9 v6 24v Cosworth 1995-1998
Granada 2.9 v6 12v 1995-1998
Mondeo 1993-2000 2.5 v6
Mondeo 1993-1996 2.0 4x4
Cougar 1998-2003 2.5 v6 coupe
Escort mk5 RS Cosworth 4x4 1993-1995
Going through all the brake threads the Granada calipers are the ones mentioned for the 283mm disc upgrade.
1. Since these are now difficult to get hold of 2nd hand, could one of the others in the list be used?
2. what are the original 260mm calipers?
3. Are the grannie calipers bigger than the original ones therefore allowing bigger pads?
4. If it is the carrier plate that sets the offset and caliper position, will the original one do? or is the granada cosworth one needed! (barring a few washers...)
So many questions. No matter how much research i do there are always ambiguities!
Hope someone out there is not fed up with brake threads and can clarify the exact kit which fits...
Cheers, Jon.

Try findapart for those cos callipers,i got mine for £55 to the door(resealed them, but they where in fine condition)the pads have a larger swept area than stock callipers, and are bulkier,be it 240mm fronts or 278mm set/ups,the spacers needed are 2mm x 4 a common washer thickness, niceGranada 2.9 24v Cosworth 1991-1995

2 sierra
3 slightly bigger
4 yes the carrier is all important, you cannot use the one from the 260mm set up , if you use 283 mm discs and the carrier from the granada cossie or a v6 mondeo you will only have to use a small spacer(washer)if you use a 278mm disc you will need a 12mm spacer.
so in short use any of the calipers with the correct casting/part number, with carriers from either granada cossie or mondeo v6 , and 283mm discs , these will all go together best - I've just done this last week but used 278mm discs from a complete mondeov6 st24 set up so know it works , when my discs need replacing I will use 283mm from sierra cosworth (86-90) this will reduce the spacer required to washer thickness as the offset on the disc suits the chimaera set up better
hope this helps
whilst replacing wishbones, bushes, ball joints and shocks i thought i might aswell upgrade the front brakes whilst im at it, i want to make sure i am doing right here, I have just bought Mondeo v6 front calipers 887 and 888 markings from the breakers £30 and re drilled the carriers and placed a 2mm washer between the carrier and the caliper, about to order new sierra cosworth front disc's 283mm four stud, I presume the pads are the same as the Mondeo v6? can someone confirm this before i part with cash, Thanks
Also watch the clearance between the disk and the caliper. Mine needed a little grinding with the dremel. The 283 disk can be a very close fit.
Edit to add: When drilling out the hub make absolutely sure the hole centre does not drift. This may cause the caliper to move even closer to the disk.
