I have been trying to remove my dizzy on my 97 450 Chim (serpentine) as I no longer need it now the coilpacks are going on, the thing doesn't seem to want to leave though! I've removed the bolt that holds the clamp down and can't see any other fixing but it won't come out. It feels like its knocking on something metal as it moves a bit and jiggles side to side but vertical movement hits something which is preventing it from coming up and out. Any ideas whats stuck?

Rover Sdi workshop repair manual said:

1, Disconnect battery, remove dist cap, disconnect vac pipe, remove two straps secururing dist harness, disconnect two Lucar connectors from coil.

2, Rotate crankshaft until timing pointer is aligned with 6 deg BTCD mark on crankshaft pulley and the rotor arm points toward the No1 segment in dist cap.

3, Disconnect ballast resistor harness plug, pull ht lead and plug leads from dist cap.

4, Remove the bolt and clamp bracket and withdraw the dist from the timing gear cover.
I guess this is for pre-Serp but might help ?

Great, thanks i'll give it a go... Maybe it has to be aligned to no.1 before it will come out?

The rotor arm has to rotate slightly as the dizzy lifts, to disengage the drive gear. You might find it comes out easier if you turn the rotor arm as you lift. There isn't anything else holding it down, once you've removed the clamp.

Also mark where the rotor arm points as it comes out so you can start re-insertion at that point (saves a bit of fiddling).
