mine is an early 93 chim - i need to take off the interior door knob and no grub screws from what i can see. there is a bolt immediately below the knob which i assume is how it is fixed in place.

any idea about removal? obviously the knob is pivoted to turn for the passenger door to open if you tried to screw it off similar to the gear knob.... therefore i assume this isnt the way forward.

Definitely a grub screw - about an inch or so beneath the knob I think. Bloody small though, talking precision screwdriver set

My 98 knob, is held on by a 2mm (approx) grub screw. It's at the front and not easy to see/find, but it is there.

I had to take mine apart the other week ( as one of the cables came adrift), got so far then thought I would ask a man that knows.

Paid a visit to Adrian Venn, we sorted it out in 20 mins, if my memory serves me well the door knob is threaded and held on with glue!

I haven't glued it back on though, its just friction keeping it all together!

Give Mr Venn a call he is always helpful.

thanks people. There was no 2mm grub screw as I first thought - i assume this is something brought into the later cars. On mine the bolt needs a spanner to hold in position and then will twist the usual anti-clockwise to remove. No sign of any glue holding it in place, simply brute force. HTH Bob

Now, can anyone tell me where to buy the cables for the door release and an approximate price?

I am thinking bike brake cables maybe a far cheaper alternative....

Bike cables sounds a good solution, bound to be cheaper. Sorry, nothing to add, just got an early '93 one as well, but my cables are OK, its the Central Locking Control Unit that's bu**ered.

Does yours have a little button in the centre of the knob which activates the central locking of both doors?? Mine doesn't but was told it was a "sort-of-recall" to fit it many years ago?? Anyone shed some light ?? What does the button connect to electrically?

Good luck

What is wrong with the CL unit, have you checked the three fuses on the PCB?

Hi Trev - good to know of someone else in a similar boat with a 93 Chim only owned a week!

Mine also lacks the central button for the central locking and therefore cannot be locked from the inside. i am not too fussed by that to be honest.

My central locking is also playing silly buggers and needs to be looked at. I am tempted to get a pro to sort this out and fit a push button system at the same time but wouldnt mind trying to fix the problem with it and cut down the bill....

3 fuses on the PCB?? as an ex S3 owner i am used to having my head in the passenger footwell groping around changing fuses. Where are these ones? and is it normal to have 3 fuses for central locking???

The '93 versions have a large black box called the Central Locking Control Unit under the dash with the Alarm velcro'd to it. Its a 16 pin unit. Inside you will find the fuses, circuit board and relays.

Shnozz, I would not recommend you ask any Dealer to "look at my alarm/central locking please..........". But if you do and they say they know all about them, then please mail me !!!!!

Cheers Trev - will look them out and have a play. Unfortunately a 2 week holiday is going to stop me having a look for the next couple of weeks but will get to work upon my return. If no joy I will be using a pro in the shape of a local alarm installer/auto-electrician. Wouldnt use TVR labour rates for any electrical work to be honest. Am probably going to have push button locking fitted in any event so if they have to fix any faults they can do that at the same time.
