Has anyone bought the Surrey folding roof.

Any real world experiences?

It's a folding section that replaces the targa panel. The rear section stays in place. It folds up into a Toblerone shape and is supposed to be much easier to store. Can't remember where I saw it but it looked ok.

...........and it isn't cheap!

Hence, I wondered if anyone had any experience of using it.

I enquired about this a couple of months ago. All the details are on another PC, IIRC it was IRO £500.

Sprint magazine was supposed to have a feature article comparing all the different roof solutions available.
I think this was postponed due to the Peter Wheeler tribute.

I decided wait at least until I've read the review before ordering.
Ideally, I want know someone with one first.

I've got one!

Good points
It folds up and releases loads of boot space
It's a lot lighter
It's well made

Can't think of any specific things I would change about it but a couple of observations
1. I believe the profiles around the windscreen vary a little from car to car so the fit against the windscreen will vary. Mine varies a bit but nothing that I'm too worried about it's secure when in place.
2. The struts that hold the top open as supplied aren't very shiny but a few hours with a polishing wheel sorted that.
3. The struts on mine had been assembled wrongly so the locking collar was on the wrong way round, but Roger sent me a repalcement set by return of post
4. Haven't fully tested the sealing properties in heavy rain yet but the window sealing looks pretty good. It was certainly fine in light rain over the weekend.

For me it fits all my needs. I've still got the hard top which I may use in Winter. It might seem like a lot of money but I think it's worth it.

If you want to know anything else let me know.

I also have one on my Griff and a big thumbs up. Folds down easily, fits in its own bag and stows either behind seats or in the boot with tons of spare space. Fits well although I have a slight problem with the top of the window post catching the roof edge on both sides of the car. I'm pretty sure it's because my door hinges are worn and it all needs adjusting.

I'll only use the hard top in winter now. Have driven in some pretty wet weather and no issues at all.

Thanks for the comments from the owners. I did see the roof at the Growl, but it's always good to get real world experiences.

I was impressed, and the favourable comments have made me even keener to get one.

My problem now is that my roof is Blue, the colour match was a concern at the Growl as his Blue did match any of the Griff Blue roofs I offered it up to.

Roger (the roof maker) sent me a swatch of his Blue material and I have compared it to a couple of hood suppliers. It looks like I'll need to replace the whole hood to get a match, and so far no-one matches his Blue so a colour change to black may be the only solution.

To the guys that have the folding roof - how's the colour match to the hood? Are yours Black?

Thanks

Yup, mine is black. Rear section was faded but after a clean and a Renovo treatment matched perfectly
