I am 95% sure that I'm going to order a new set of wheels this week , 17" Kahn RSR's with 205/40ZR17 front and 235/40ZR17 rear Avon ZZ3's (as fitted to new Tamora) what are my standard 5 spokes worth and is anyone interested in them ? The wheels are in stunning condition with half worn 225/50ZR15 SO2s on front and 5mm 245/45ZR16's on rear , the fronts have a tiny bit of edgewear due to PAS. Thanks.

With 17's you should use 215/45/17 on the front and 235/40/17 or 255/35/17 on the back to keep the over all diameter as close to the origanal as poss! Also, have a look as using the new TOYO's as they are standard on new TVR's!

How about £300 for the set ? I will be passing over the Tamar bridge (not far from you ?) next week and could collect.

Does anyone know if 4 wheels will fit in the boot of a Chimaera or will I have to use the passenger seat ?

You might get 2 in the boot (deflate the tyres) But i think you will only get 1 on the passenger seat?

I was wondering the same thing. I am due to get 4 new tyres and thought it would be a shame to throw the almost slick old ones as theu might be OK for another track day (in the dry).

Let us know if you manage it.

Anyone got any thoughts on using ex-road tyres on track days ?

It could get costly to keep getting them swapped back and forth though and would be illegal to drive to the track in a slick state.

I can (just barely) get a pair of 245 section tyres on the V8S passenger seat. It's pretty close, on width and on length between the back of the seat and the dashboad. They were 245mm wide at the widest point, and roughly 630mm in diameter. Worth measuring up in advance, they're bigger than they look. They'll be dirty too don't forget.

Drive there on your space saver, then swap when you get there, that'll save a bit.

Twerlie , are you sure about those rear profiles as

235/40x17 = 255/30x17 and
255/35x17 = 235/45x17

The reason I went for the Avons is I screwed the best deal on a set from the rep , whereas I couldn't buy Toyo/Bridgestone as cheap.
Is 205/40x17 too low for the front ?

Yes! i went to a specialist, and he said i needed 215/45/17 front and 235/40/17 back! but you could put 255/35/17's on the back but it would make it a very harsh ride!

I have 215/40 x 17 and 245/40 x 17 on mine and it's fine btw isn't the 215 bit refering to the tyre width which would have nothing to do with profile?

Changing the width of the tyre does increaes the profile slightly!

The way it works is that 215 is your width in milimetres and 45 is the percentage of the width that gives you your ride height
eg 45% of 215 = sidewall height.
