Quick iPod install write-up
Discussion
On the basis of looks alone, I picked up a Pioneer P77MP on eBay. Not sure why they no longer make something that doesn't look like a branch of Halfords has been dropped on it. Anyway, I digress. I discovered that it has the Pioneer iBus socket so I then picked up a CD-IB100 iPod controller. I set about installing it today.
Here's the controller - nice and compact and just needs a power feed and an iBus lead.

Having removed the head unit and cage, I hooked the power into the main stereo loom with a couple of Scotchloks.

Next, off with the radio panel and move the immobilser unit out of the way to feed the cables through in the direction of the glovebox.

Unscrewing the glovebox panel reveals nice easy access to pull through the cables. At this point I also cut a small slot in the vinyl of the glovebox (well, gloveflap really) so that the hole is actually far enough back that it is not visible from inside the car. The iPod connector feeds through here into the gloveflap.

Pioneer kindly supply a couple of sticky-back velcro strips to fix the unit down. The back of the gloveflap seemed ideal.

When the gloveflap is reattached, nothing is visible other than the iPod lead.

Then, refit the radio panel and cage and tuck the wiring away as neatly as possible. It seems to be that the flat connectors for the switches are very fragile, so care is needed here.

Finally, refit the head unit and fire it up.

No sign of the iPod

When you connect up a normal iPod (e.g. my Nano), a Pioneer logo appears on the screen and it starts charging. My iPhone works too, but it doesn't charge and needs to be in Airplane mode to avoid interference from the mobile signal.
Hope someone finds that useful / interesting!

Go on then whats the next project ?????, i too just fitted a new Pioneer stereo but i just went for one with an aux jack plug in the front, plug i pod in there and its fine
Yeah I had hoped that the one I bought would at least have a basic aux-in on the back but it didn't.Next project is half done - that cable is a charge lead, the rest of the project is a neat install of the bits that it plugs into, running back to the garage / accumate.
Another way of getting ipod connectivity IF you have a suitable Pioneer head unit and optional CD Disc changer in the boot is to fit the CD-IB100 next to the changer, hidden in the panel above the petrol tank.
The ipod is then controlled from the head unit and sits on the wheel arch, also hidden from prying eyes.

My 160Gb iPod Classic lives just below the radio location in the little receptacle area in front of the gearlever hidden from prying eyes by a screen demister pad...
...of course I have no heater vents down there so I have been suffering from a very cold knob these last couple of months.

This stereo does have basic Aux in support:
I have a DEH-P77MP and all you have to do is get one of these cables: Pioneer RB-10 Ai-Net adapter:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am... £2.99 delivered.
And an RCA to 3.5mm adapter wire: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am... 99p delivered
Loop the cable round to somewhere convenient and plug your ipod / mp3 player in!
You need to enable "aux input" in the menu of the P77MP but instructions are in the manual from here: http://www.pioneer.de/eur/products/archive/DEH-P77...
You don't need a transmitter or the expensive Ipod adapter.

Fantastic write up! I am looking at changing my headunit out for something that i can connect my iPhone to so I found this really usefull.
I am gutted now I used to have a Pioneer DEH-P77MP but i sold it with one of my previous cars, it looks really good in the dash of your TVR. I may have to source another one as the headunit in my TVR now is not great.

If you would like the ability to charge your iPhone when connected to the Pioneer CD-IB100 you can purchase a charge convertor that sits between the phone and the interface:http://cablejive.com/charge-converter
I have not personally tried it so cannot vouch for it but there is a useful thread here if it was something you looking to do?
