Idling issue...

Searched the archives and found similar but not exact. Went for a jolly good blast a few evenings ago and really opened the car up to it's full potential for the first time since ownership five or so weeks ago 
. However now, idling is strangely low and intermitent on EVERY OTHER RUN 
!!? to the extent that the engine dies completely. When on the move the car seems to behave normally but when approaching a stop the idling cuts and dies. Cleaned the stepper and plenum butterfly and adjusted idling screw. Apologies for any spelling errors - on my fourth glass of red. Can you fix it? KTG p.s - Have also noticed Chim, when now idling at all, idles initially at about 1500rpm then adjusts to 900 after a few secs.
