Hi All

Can anyone help. How do you get the shafts off the car.
I Have removed the 6 hub end and 6 diff end bolts.
The shafts are now loose, but how do you get them out of the chassis and suspenion area.
Do i need to disconnect anything else.

Thanks in advance.
Neil

As far as i am aware you should be able to wiggle manouvre them out. Each cv joint will collapse slightly so push it all one way as if you are pushing the shaft into one of the cv joints, I`m sure this will give you enough room to manouvre them out.

If you still cant get them out you could always disconnect the top bush on the upright where it attaches to the top wishbone and then gently angle the upright outwards.

Do not undo the top of the upright mount as this will put the geo out! To remove the shafts undo both bottom 16mm nuts and remove bolts on the upright where it joins to the lower wishbone you can then raise the whole upright upwards after cutting the cable tie holding the hand brake cable to the wishbone then slide out drive shaft (may need to put a large screw driver between upright and cv joint and wiggle to free outer as it does stick) Easy as you have done the worst bit.

+1 - you may find it easier to release the bottom suspension bolt from the wishbone as well and then the whole bottom of the upright will tilt away from the driveshaft and drop out.

Cheers Guys. Ian Ian Mark

I thought i may have to end up undoing the bottom of the upright mounts.
Thanks for advice will have another look and another go at them tonight.
At the moment i still have the boots held in place by the clips is it possible they are resticting the amount of movement on the CVs.
They will only take a couple of minutes to fully cut off.

Thanks Neil

As a tip, when refitting, you can fit and torque up the inner diff cap bolts by using a long, (or a couple of medium) socket extensions from outside the hub carrier.
Also easy to undo with an impact drill this way, (too late now I know!).

Shafts are now out.
Thanks guys did as suggested removed the 2 lower wishbone bolts and esaed the hub carrier outwards. The shafts almost fell out ( well not quite ).
Both shafts out 20 - 30 minutes, will clean up and fit new boots and regrease tomorrow. Its to cold in the garage tonight.

Also anybody know what the torque loading is when refitting the bolts.

Thanks again

Not sure of the torque loading, but i would suggest you use threadlock on them as well. I rebuilt mine a while back and after doing a general inspection at everything under the car after 200 miles or so, i found some of the driveshaft bolts [all at the diff side] had begun to work loose. Threadlock on them now and no further problems.

32-35 ft:lbs torque setting ,this is what mine were tightened to previously and were still tight when removed recently (cleaned threads and surfaces / thread lock)

Update/
Shafts refitted after cleaning and regreasing CV's.
New boots x4 fitted, bolts torqued and thread locked.

Thanks for the advice about the 2 lower hub - wishbone bolts, this made the job so much easier.(Possible)
Cheers
Neil
