I hadn't noticed that.

Wow.

Both of Emm's MX-5s never had grilles either, in spite of a gaping hole at the front, with the rad the first thing for debris to hit.

Astonishing. A la MX-5, all Chims would have an alloy engine (V8 was alloy IIRC), so if your rad gets lunched, the rise in temperature could be catastrophic. After a friend in his '5 got a rock through his rad, a grille was bought PDQ.

Are they not commercially available?

Corin: I will take some shortly, I fitted it in with silicone sealant in case they needed removing again, a tidier job could be done with some bodyfilller I reckon.

Any details of what mesh you used - Halfrauds? Pets r Us?......???

Snip to size and fix I guess.

What problems might be caused if it came loose......? Just thinking ahead and allowing for my skills....

Inside: trimmed and shaped by hand to fit, then loads of silicone sealant between the bonnet and the mesh with it protruding through the mesh to grip.. held in place with masking tape until the sealant went off (24hrs):

Best mod to the Chim I've seen. Nice work. With matching grill all very subtle. Hope to see it for real sometime. Well done. Think the colour contrast of your car and the mesh works well.

I was thinking about putting this on my list-of-things-to-do and now I've seen it almost in the flesh I'll move it up a few places.

It looks like you used galvanised mesh, doesn't that go white after a while? Wonder what it would look like sprayed to match the bodywork?
