All,
I've done some phoning around to find/collate the difinitive list of upgrades that are available for the Aero 8. In my hunt all roads seemingly lead to Rome and at the end of the day the "font of many facts" in this area is the guy's who run the British GT series Aero 8.

I have had a long discussion with Billy about the possibilities and he seems to have pretty much consolidated the options from all around and is either running them or has evaluated them and put them to one side. Probably a good QA/Development process we could exploit as owners of road cars.

What we have agreed is that I would arrange a day where the Aero owners can go up to the workshop.. look at the GT3 car and have a presentation/guided discussion of the performance options available for the road cars. Pretty much options upto 400Bhp.

I will post a meet onto both the pistionheads forum and the talkmorgan meets forum as it would be a great opportunity to look at the car and speak to the experts!

This should at least put some FACT into the performance discussion with some pricing and options.

awesome - I've been seriously thinking about upgrades for the last 12 months. Got to the point where I was going to get the ECU remapped in May then decided that I'd keep things standard for the summer given the number of miles anticipated.

Now the weather is off it's probably time to think about putting a few quid aside to see what they can do without having to drop the service interval to every 50 miles...

ECU's are an interesting subject when you look at Aero 8's. The standard BMW ecu is very limited and even a remap will only give you small increases.. at high cost and everytime you change car setup you'll need to go through the whole process again. (same as my old TVR MBE ECU setup) A Motec ECU swap on the other hand can release considerably more horses without any other changes and can be re-configed on the fly. (same as TVR's swapping to Emerald units aftermarket). Another advantage is the multi map capability which means a performance map and a MoT map.... at the flick of a dash/hidden switch.

All the upgrades that will be discussed will also cover MoT friendlyness. thumbup
More at the brief day. biglaugh

sounds fantastic

Certainly those Iv'e talked to suggested that on an S1 an exhaust / ecu swap would push things from 286 to somewhere around 310-320bhp.

My personal aim is for somewhere 350ish so that its around 300bhp/ton

Brilliant Andrew, I have been told that with side-pipes the Series II/III are giving circa 350 bhp. But it would be interesting to see them on a rolling-road and find out what they are actually giving and what the options are, for in my case an ECU re-map and mild tune.

I await your definitive post with interest
