Do any of you folks insure your MG's throught the MGOC preferred broker Lancaster?

Recently in the club magazine there was an article about keeping insurance affordable for young drivers of MG's in order to promote MG ownership among the next generation.

Yesterday I called for a quote for my son who is 19 and has a 1500 Midget, the price I was quoted was £1,239 for TPFT , when I questioned them about their supposed policy of special deals for young drivers I was told that classic car rates could only be applied to those over 21!

I then called Footman James and with the same criteria got a quote for £465!!! Three guesses as to who got my business

This is not another rant about the MGOC because generally I'm happy about being a member, I just wondered how many of you have had similar experiences with Lancaster.

I have found them generaly slightly higher than FJ, although i am still insured through them I had an accident last year, but the other party is playing hard to get (it was in france). I am told that the legal side of the deal with MGOC is where their insurance comes into its own. It looks like i may have t flex the muscle of Mr R Bentley himself on this one...

Am 25 (26 tomorrow ) and my insurance is around £350 pa for 15,000miles per year, MG BGT (1972)

Incidently my younger brother (littlegearl - he posts here too) is insured with Liverpool Victoria for around £700 fully comp. he's 19 and drives a 1978 mk1 Vauxhall Cavalier, RWD 2000cc mildly uprated. They might have been worth a shot....

Buffalo,
I hear what you're saying about all the back-up and extra goodies that you get with Lancaster and I agree that these things are nice to have, especially if your car is particularly good as I know yours is (I've seen Roche defending his corner with this argument in other forums), but the fact remains that my son wanted to get on the road as economically as possible and if the only way he could do that in an MG was by paying £1,239 for his insurance, he would most probably have given up and bought a mainstream car.

I think that by charging this much for basic, limited mileage insurance Lancaster are acting as a disincentive for young MG owners. Especially after reading the artical in Enjoying MG to which I previously refered.

Edited to add: Happy Birthday.

I quite agree, the only you might try is a direct email to Roche himself, he can occasionally swing things to your favour....

I've never found Lancaster cheaper than FJ or Peter Best, in fact a lot more expensive and I'm not sure about the added benefits.

I would have thought that MGOC could get a better deal on MG's and promote club by encouraging younger drivers to become members.

Although I'm happy being a MGOC member, concerns have been raised re the Club and business conflict.
