I was at Spa for 2 days last week and at the top of Eau Rouge the car suddenly started to splutter as if there was no fuel. I managed to coast it at a constant 3k rpm all the way to the top opf the kemmel straight but as soon as I downchanged and gave it some more revs there was nothing. Got towed back in a re-fuelled and it started fine so i thought it must have been because I was out of fuel. Went back out and then after 4 laps, it did the same thing again. Radical said it could be the fuel pump coming off it's mounts and sitting horizontally (had a look and it is fine), they also said it could be the fuel regulator but how do I test that ? Can anyone help, I fired it up in the garage yesterday and it was fine so it's an intermittent problem but I guess it could be one of 4 or 5 things ???????
Also what gearing do people use around Spa, I had the standard gear in and it was awful, I was running out of puff a third of the way up the kemmel straight and also before Blanchimont 1 ?

Hi Simon,
I have the bullet type fuel filter on mine which is in the engine compartment just near the battery. I took it off yesterday but it seems like a sealed unit so you can't get to the filter element,(it's the blue Sytec one like on the Radical on-line store). I blew through it and it did not seemed to be blocked. Also, I didn't realise there were 2 pumps, I thought there was only the one pump in the tank, is there another next to the regulator inside the side pod ?
If so, how do you check they are working properly ? I fired it up again yesterday and it seemed fine.....could it be an electrical thing ? Thanks, Ali.

Hi Rob, I did wonder if the red bit came off as it looked like it should but I couldn't twist it, will have another go. If it was a fuel pump problem, surely it would either work or pack up altogether, unless it's a wiring thing.
Whenever I fire the car up now, it runs perfectly. Maybe it could be the regulator playing up but I guess you can't test that.....if the fuel filter turns out to be clear, I am lost. Radical suggested it could be the ECU getting too hot as it sits right behind the manifolds...lot's of could be's. As it is intermittent, i guess it's electrical or something in the filter that gets stuck every now and then. Any more suggestions welcome ?
Cheers

Radical suggested that the leads might be the problem with mine but then it would still fire on 3 cylinders if one lead had a poor connection so it can't be that. Mine splutters abd then dies completely so it has to either be a fuelling or an ECU problem I reckon, taking the filter apart this afternoon, see if I have any joy there. Will keep you posted if I find the solution.
