Early XJ-S, pre HE model with manual gearbox, one of less than 300 built, not sure how many remaining but imagine very few left.
That's lovely. Cannot remember the last time I saw one with the black rear panel. A genuine factory manual pre HD car must surely be the XJ-S (along with late convertibles) that will become the most sought after. Brilliant 70s colour too.

I beg to differ. I really like the unadorned styling of the pre-HE, but that rear bumper is hideous. Did all pre-HE XJS come with the US style impact bumpers? Despite what many claim I'd also rather have the auto box and certainly the HE engine.

I was referring to the black number plate panel thing on the back. Yes the US spec impact bumpers were standard because Jaguar were skint. The prototypes with civilised bumpers on looked a lot better. I adore the XJS, but it is hard to believe that even Leyland looked at it with it's hideous face, ridiculous wheelbase, ham fisted detailing, and dreadful bumpers and thought "ready to rock, we have a winner".

I am in two minds about the auto thing. On one hand the cars character lends itself to an auto. On the other hand the three speed BW or GM slusher they used for most of it's life really robbed a great deal of power and prevented you from really exploring the power delivery of that remarkable engine. I imagine with a manual you can probably get away with using two gears most of the time, the spread of torque is so vast.

I am so tempted to do a manual conversion to get the best out of the engine. Must improve the MPG too

Here's my 2009 XF 3.0d in spectrum blue. Currently standard other than a remap to take it to 307bhp & 449ft lb.
This is my first Jag and I'm really enjoying it. For cruising around its refined and luxurious but put it in dynamic and sport and it's surprisingly rapid for blasting twisty A roads.

Nice colour choice.

Saw your buying advice thread a couple of weeks ago - glad you've found a good car.

Bought my XK in March this year. I wanted this colour and low mileage ( shes done 28000). Boxes all ticked.
I owned an Nissan 370z convertible before the XK. I had a few problem with comfort in Z plus my wife didn't like hard drive.
Now. She likes the Jag so happy days.

Well. The convertible has now gone to a new home

Picked this up in November, my first Jag. Such a lovely place to sit and that supercharger whine is addictive, oh and 400bhp is a nice bonus too
