Newer golfs and the latest R are so boring to look at. Id have a mk 4 R32 every time as they still stand out now, over 10 years after they came out..

I assume you are basing that on a few magazine pictures, as you have not yet seen the new R in the flesh...

He could have, as the link I posted proves, at least one UK dealer has a car.

Depends what you're after. If you want a crazy bodykit, Mk2 Focus RS is a good shout.

The Mk4 R32 only stands out in blue or a well looked after black. In silver or red it's as mundane as any other Golf. Unless you hear it you wouldn't snap your head back in a double take as it drives past. I think people look at that car with rose tinted specs.

Perhaps for some of us the understated looks are part of the appeal wink

Red MK4 R32 is quite rare with.only 44 being imported into the UK. I'm an R32 fan, having owned a MK5 in the past for 5 years but I totally agree with.your comment "rose tinted specs"

I like the understated look of the S3 snd MK7 R. It would seem that the Mk3 Leon Cupra R will have Haldex and 296 bhp so I expect that will be more "sporty" looking.

Agreed.
In my case, I am too old to attract attention as it leads to dissapointment!

I'm sure that's not the case!

For me, I will be using it for work, and need it to look smart, without looking too 'boy racer' - that is not an image I want to convey of my company.

Hi all,

Noticed this the other day and now frantically trying to get something organised before the deal ends.

Regarding insurance, I've called a few insurance companies who have told me they can't quote as the car hasn't yet been released. My current insurance company won't insure me on the vehicle as they've an age restriction on "hot hatches" (I'm 26 with 3 years no claims and they require a min age of 30). Anyone found a decent insurance company/broker to use, my current best quotes are coming from companies found on Compare the Market etc. I don't mind paying c. £1,000 but obviously have to make sure that my costs are kept in line with what I can afford rather than going overboard with the excitement.

I've enquired with G2L about a 3dr auto with solid paint (white) and leather. Is there any other add ons you would recommend, does the basic in car comms look sufficient (don't really need a sat nav as I don't tend to go places I've not heard of and have an iphone for worst case scenario)?

Lastly, sorry to make this long, how does initial payment work? This would be my first personal lease so curious as to how the deposit is taken (they've given me an indicative May delivery time), is the payment taken when the car is delivered and monthly payments start after that or are payments taken as soon as the deal is agreed?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Insurance - can't help you on that one, try the specialist brokers such as Flux if your current insurer won't play ball. Don't forget that you will be the registered keeper, but not the owner of the vehicle as it's leased.

No sure on the comms either, I've specc'd basic nav, but I think the car gets iPod interfaces etc as standard.

Initial payment is taken around 10 days after delivery. Once you've signed up, you'll be told by G2L that they've added £200 to your initial payment. This £200 is refunded on the day of delivery, but is taken with the deposit 10 days later, so you're not out of pocket. It's just them playing with numbers and probably giving some of their margin away.

Good advice to be clear on this, though the PCH leases I have done in the past involve the lease company being the owner AND registered keeper (they hold the V5 and I have never been named on it). PCP is different, you hold the V5 and are named as the keeper.

Not being the registered keeper (or legal owner) does reduce the number of insurers that will quote, though I have not had any trouble comparing confused meerkats for the Golf R.

Great stuff guys, thanks for the input.

G2L seem to be slightly slow in responding, although I suppose they deal with a fair number of enquiries a day that lead to nothing.

Will be sure to ask them who counts as the registered keeper as well as the owner and then do some more investigation. Just wish that insurers held their quotes valid for a certain amount of time as I've had some sub £1,000 quotes but with rate changes occurring daily, I suppose that's asking for a little too much.

This new car malarkey is exciting!

Why don't you ask the lease company - some might say 10,000 miles, some might be 12,000.

Long as it is less than 20,000, then I am happy with a maintenance pack. Otherwise, I would not bother with maintenance pack!
