Just had a thought - if you disconnect the exhaust valves, so they no longer move - won't they seize? All the soot and crap that you get on the tailpipe will also build up on the flap/bearing. In normal use, it gets moved every time you start the car, which would break up any build-up. But if it never moves, I wonder if it will get too much build up, then when you plug it back in it won't be able to cycle and ping up error codes.

Not a problem if your car and never want to re-activate them (in which case might be better removing them completely) But if it is a lease car which needs to be put back to normal - might be an issue.
You could be right. Mine are still disconnected, and I have no intention to re-connect them so I'm not that worried. When it is eventually returned and re-connected, I'm sure the inspector will not have a clue whether they are working or not, or even what they are!

Anyone considered the RS5 Honeycomb grill as a replacement? A few companies now offering this part. I saw an s4 with the rs4 grill and it looked so aggressive. I think I may do this!
I do like the RS grille and it looks great on the S5, but if it is stupidly expensive (recon it will be) then I personally would not bother.

Out interest why are some folk removing the plugs in the exhaust to leave the flaps open constantly therefore make it loud all the time? Surely leaving the car in dynamic does that and leaves the flaps open whilst the engine is running doesn't it?
It does, but for some who want to, you can have the sporty exhaust note in all modes.

It is said on many forums, even in dynamic the flaps shut below 40mph / certain throttle positions to comply with EU noise regs.
Unplugging gives you the dynamic sound even at pootling around speeds.
Yes, a more accurate response!

Just seen this video which is mindboggling. The b9 s4 with an exhaust being timed 0-60. Besides the exhaust the car is stock with no tune.

https://youtu.be/y0S6WEPlotI

I can't inagine what sort of 0-60 times the car is putting down with a tuning box or a map. Has anyone accurately timed their cars yet from 0-60?
Yep, with TDI box got 3.8 on my Tod. You can safely say 4 easy.

So I have bought a Ghost and had it fitted.

I did not realise that it allows you to start the car but locks the gearbox in neutral until you enter a code, rather than just not letting you start the car. Great piece of kit and totally stealth (not used the window stickers). Only pain is I keep forgetting to enter the code and have to start all over again, but it is now becoming more of a habit. At least I don't have to worry so much where I park it now thank god.

My MY17 S5 has developed an annoying trick of advising me on the MMI screen that there are delays on my preferred route to somewhere that I am neither going to or maybe ever been. I then have to tell it I don't want messages. It seems to be totally random but occurs when there is no destination set on the SatNav.
Anyone know how to disable this 'feature'?
Winds me up too. I drive to Rochdale (from near Scarborough) about every 2 weeks and I use the sat nav every time (for traffic etc) and it keeps nagging me about this every time I am in the car and there is a traffic jam on the M62 during my normal daily commute. I only care about the traffic on the M62 if I am going to be going on it!
Yep, happens to me too about hold up's on the M1 when I'm actually on the A5. I'm not 100%, but think you can turn off traffic alerts on the NAV MMI settings if you want to. Having said that, for me it has come in useful more than being annoying sometimes.

They are a great bit of kit. Took a week or so for me to always remember to enter it. I like the valet mode too where if it goes in for a service it allows the car to start code free and go up to 29 MPH.
Well worth 350 gbp.
Yes agree. This is one reason (among many) why I got one.

So easy, scary stuff.

Where are you in the South East?

I contacted Autowatch and they advised me that their registered installer in my area was Sound Secure, he is based in Horley near Gatwick and he covers a large area.

It was £400, but I was happy to pay the full price to know that it was installed by a registered installer who knows what he is doing, and he came to my place of work to install it, he also hardwired in my Dash Cam for some extra beer tokens.
Thanks. Based in Reading, Berkshire.

Will it be a pain to get this removed at the end of the 2 year lease?
According to my installer no, quite easy.

Doesn't that make it easy for the thief to get rid too?
No, not all. It is encrypted into the ECU for one, and since mine was installed, I have yet to find any 'device' or connection anywhere and believe me I have looked very hard. The only way round it is to swap the ECU, which means towing the car away to do so.

Windows dropping when parked.

Had the known issue of the drivers door window dropping halfway down when parked. Found a quick solution to fix it. I would imagine it would also be the same for any window.

1. Turn ignition/engine on & hold the up button
2. Turn ignition/engine off whilst still holding the up button
3. Turn ignition/engine on again whilst still holding the up button and then let go

Sorted.

Does that reset it so it doesn't happen next time?
Fixes the issue, but it may happen again at some later point.

I would deffo contact BCS Power Valve as well - ask for Nige on 01744 610244 and say Simon sent you - he will know i was asking about a B9 S5 Exhaust only a week ago. He was thinking about developing a system and give discount for pics and other media to be used after. They have a very good reputation and the stuff is high quality. My detailer had a the Golf R system from them and it was very nice.
Cheers for the info. Problem is 01744 is a St Helens postcode which is some 160 miles north away from me, so may not be possible!

So, had a Milltek non res catback exhaust fitted yesterday (fits S4/S5) and OMG what an amazing difference!!! Was a bit dubious after watching comparison videos, but they really do not give it any justice at all. It now sounds like an angry V8 when you want, no drone at all, not obnoxious, and the valve motors swap over if you want to use them. The car now sounds just like it should......very happy.

Which tips?

You have chucked a fair bit of money at a car you don't own haven't you? Or do you not lease yours? Either way the wheels and pipe will have decent residual value I suppose.
Got the GT100 (4") tips in titanium. Yes the car is leased, but I'm going to purchase it at the end in 2 years time. Have a good arrangement with my neighbour who is the Audi/VW UK finance manager which is very handy. Yes, spent a few quid on it...about 6k so far so really must stop it!!
