On the subject of oil consumption, I had a service recently, and since then the high oil consumption has virtually stopped confused

I've gone from topping up a couple of litres every 3000 miles, to not having to top it up at all over 3000 miles, oil is still showing half way up the dipstick.

How could it suddenly stop using oil? Do you think they may have bunged some sort of 'Molyslip/Ametech' type additive in there with the new oil at my service?

That is very strange unless they have changed the grade of oil to reduce consumption.

Maybe they have just coloured in half the dip stick :-)

looking forward to getting the scirocco in the next couple of months. should have just gone for that in the first place. the difference between the two cars is like night and day. dynamically, the scirocco is in another stratosphere.

Scirocco is a good choice. I chopped my R32 in for a 170 Diesel and I'm really liking it. I hope you stayed away from the 1.4 engine in the Rocco as quite a few owners are having the same issues that some Polo owners are having

Does anyone know if the turbo motors are suffering in the same way as the twinchargers? We don't get very many 1.4TSIs through here.

I checked my oil mid week, it was off the bottom of the dipstick. Very strange, it greatly reduced its drinking for a short while after the last service, but now it's back to drinking heavily.

It's really hit and miss with oil consumption on the 1.4TSI, I've had 3 Fabia VRS as company cars and do roughly 2000 pretty hard driven miles a month and haven't had to top up more than 1 litre in any of them ove 9/10000 miles.
I've got a customer who has done 7000 miles in his since 1st March and he must have had 3 or 4 litres of oil of us in that time.

Well... ownership of the Polo ended today. Pretty much bang on 2 years of having it.

44'000 miles, 3 services (4th one due), a whole lot of tyres, even more fuel and a slightly bitter taste left in my mouth.

By all means - a good car. Just not quite what it should have been. I'm glad I owned it and have no regrets whatsoever with buying it, it was the right car for me at the time. However, due to a few niggly points my 2 years of ownership has turned bitter and ruined the experience for me.
After a year there started to be a few squeaks and rattles - not the end of the world, get over it...right? In the time I had it there has been...2x window regulators, wing mirror switch, radiator and a few coils packs. Again, not the end of the world.
What ruined it all for me is a few months ago a fault happened every so often. This was when slowing down to maybe 10/15mph and then driving off again (roundabouts, junctions etc). The car would very very slightly jolt/judder when moving off. I reported it to the dealer and they said they cannot replicate the fault - I wasn't overly pissed off about it to be honest. Anyway, the fault got worse and worse and worse... to the point where the EMWL is on in the car all the time and the EPC light comes on after a few miles which limits revs - total pain in the arse on a 50mile daily commute. Now, 3 months the fault has been there...into the dealer on several occasions and they haven't fixed it. VW customer care didn't help much at all. Long story short - it's still in this state now. Not fixed.

Anyway...just thought I'd throw that out there. Any questions anyone might have I'd be glad to answer - I planned to type a more elaborate story but bed is calling.

Did you have the oil breather pipe fix on your car or was oil consumption not an issue? Mine is booked in for the upgrade, used 3 litres of oil in the past 2400 miles. Hopefully this will cure it.

Surprisingly, I never had an issue with oil consumption. Had to top it up every now and then but I'm talking .5L every 5000miles or so. How are VW being about it all?

Off topic of the Polo - one of our lease cars is a Golf GTI. Customer called me and said he was using oil (2L in about 3000miles). Called the local dealer and they said "VW say you'll use a litre every 1000miles, the car is working within the manufacturers guidelines". Hope you guys all get better service than my customers and I do/did.

What are you replacing it with just out of interest?

Seems the 2.0 TDI Ibiza and A1 have been a but disappointing also so I'm not sure what the current hot VAG supermini of choice is!

At least I'm not alone, then.

A hot VAG supermini...? Hmm... I think I'll do a U-turn on this one and day there is no such thing. I wouldn't bother with another VAG car until it was time for anything A4 or bigger. Superminis aren't really their thing. Try telling me that 18 months ago - I'd have argued 'til i was blue in the face!laugh

Replaced with a Focus ST last night, we'll see how it goes smile

ours did 6ltrs in the first 6k miles, i then took it out for a 30 min full on session, flat out everywhere, it hasn't burnt a drop of oil since in the last 10k miles

it appears they do not like to be run in gently, i did read somewhere that it can cause the cylinder liners to glaze?

The warm is the Polo BlueGT.

However, with the removal of the 1.4 twincharger from the MK7 (and I assume all future cars) what else can they install?

If the 2.0 TDI fits they could try the EA888 1.8 or 2.0T
