What makes you say the BMW had loads of performance mods? Looked fairly standard factory issue to me and didn't hear him listing parts off.
Both great cars, I'd have changed my M135i for an M235i if I could but they carry a premium price whilst being the new wunderkinder
Exhaust? 2k limited slip diff? Big brake kit? Both great cars, I'd have changed my M135i for an M235i if I could but they carry a premium price whilst being the new wunderkinder
OK, you got me on the LSD,that's a option. I'll see your LSD and raise you the 19's on the Golf...

Phil was extremely busy when he was there, if he didn't reply he probably forgot due to the amount of R's he was trying to sort out.
I'm surprised the initiative was not taken and an email was sent back to him to remind him/ask if he had got what he needed yet.
Either way, he was extremely helpful for me, and now he has gone (I rang Inchcape this morning as I dont know when my first payment is due), there will be other people to deal with.
Spreading FUD like "did he give us all the same order number", or "he has our bank details and has now left" are just silly and uncalled for. He WAS a salesman that's left, that doesn't make him a fraud or a criminal for leaving.
On a lighter note, reading the replies was pretty funny this morning xD
Tried to quote just the FUD part of this message, but don't know how. It made me smile as I had a phonecall yesterday to pick my reg number if I wanted as it's going to be a 64 plate. I replied saying as long as the reg does not contain the letters FUD as in scotland I think it has a different meaning than in England lol. I'm guessing Phil may have got his marching orders for passing customer details on to Arval (Data protection act breach) or perhaps touting 100's of potential customers away from vwfs got him his p45.
Funny you say that, I've been getting emails from Leaseplan who had been passed my details from Cheltenham Inchcape / Phil. Phil did ask if he could pass them my details after the vwfs deals were pulled. I didn't agree but they still got my details and have contacted me several times since. Very bad form indeed. The whole episode stinks. Ironically the reason I was originally tempted by the sales patter was because he told me (originally on this thread) that drivethedeal's dealer didn't know what they were talking about with regards to GFVs. Phil offered to beat DTDs cash price but after a lot of chasing I never managed to get the deal finalised via Cheltenham Inchcape and Phil, probably because of his massive increase in PCH deals.
i suppose it looks like phil has become a scape goat if he has gone….guy was always excellent to deal with consider half the world were chasing him down to order a car through.
don't know what everyone is worrying about it your in doubt call VW on the number posted earlier and give them your order number.
(I'm secretly hoping mines doesn't come till next march as my lease car is up then)

Strange isn't it, that during my patronising conversation with a Sales Director of VW, he was determined to blame the brokers, yet Phil has been fired?
I wasn't that arsed about getting a cheap R when the deal originally fell through, but it was the attitude of the brokers, dealers and VWFS that persuaded me agree to be interviewed for Radio4 when I was approached through the forum.
Having a baby in the middle of all this made me even less bothered, but having since spoke to this guy at VWFS, his/their response had pissed me off.
Apparently, the reason they won't offer private individuals these cheap lease deals is that we need to be guided through the process as they may not be suitable for us dumb private customers with the limited miles and potential for charges when the car is returned - I pointed out I was capable of making this decision and he congratulated me on doing my homework, but the rest of you are obviously too stupid to work out that a lease deal isn't for you...
Oh, hang on, you are all still leasing a Golf R - so it must be right for you? The difference now is that you are paying more money, so as far as VW are concerned, you have now made the correct decision - as they are getting more money.
The letter I have received following the call is just as patronising - telling me that my complaint was closed and had now been dealt with as far as they were concerned - strange thing I never made an official complaint - I just went on the radio because I was asked to.
Ho hum. Congrats to Jamie for getting a cheap R - in the end I wanted hassle free, so I bought something else, and didn't lease.

You really do think you're the bees knees don't you? Personally, I think you're partly responsible for the way all this has turned out. Tbh, we don't know WHY Phil was pushed (assuming he was pushed), so bringing him into it when he can't defend himself is a little unfair.
Regardless, business deals are cheaper everywhere you look, so it's not really any surprise a Golf R would be cheaper on a business deal. It's just the way it is.
We just so happened to find a way where VW were bypassing that - it got publicized too much and then it was shutdown, simple as that imo.
