My Audi S4 (B6 Shape) statistics; mpg/costs etc.

Hello again everyone 
My name's Tony and I'm still a car geek.
As such, I thought I'd revisit this thread as I've just passed 1yr with my car, which included a service too. So, I'll not update the geeky petrol table because I can't imagine that's of any interest to anyone, but the graphs are updated, and all the figures are, after 1 yr (almost to the day);
I had to have the left CV joint replaced and the lower rear suspension arms at the front at a cost of £562, and a major service from 4Rings (highly recommended) which also fixed a couple of other niggly things (broken rear washer for example) was £433 - which I thought was very good value indeed (consider the thing uses over £100 in oil alone!). This isn't needed every year though - the car was last serviced November 2008 (it has variable servicing and tells you when it needs it) and I had it done (first time to me) in April 2010.
I also treated myself and had the car fully detailed at KDS Keltec, and had all the wheels refurbished, but I've left those out of the total costs.
The result of all this is;
Cost Per Mile of fuel; £0.29
Cost Per Mile of fuel AND additional costs; £0.45
I hope this is all of use to people - probably potential owners to see the (not that bad) costs associated with them. Interesting stuff anyhow - I'm now off to polish my tailpipes.

Yep, loving it. The exhaust is just right.
However, I am absolutely gutted; in the past 6 weeks something has scratched my bonnet (looks like someone got something out a van and ran it up the bonnet - scratch down to aluminium, total bonnet spray needed) and then just as I'm about to get that scratch sorted, last week someone scratched the rear bumper (looks like a car caught it). At first I was insanely angry; I take such good care of my car, always park it well out the way, wash it weekly to a very high standard (since having it detailed especially, of course) and do everything I can to make it the best possible car, only for 2 **************************s to damage it.
However, the car is bloomin' brilliant So much so I wonder whether to keep this one for a long while, or whether to chop it in for an RS4 (B7) - because I like the Audi thing so much, but think I'll wait a year and see

Actually, believe it or not, I've got "Pocket Dyno" on my phone, have had since beginning of year, and you wouldn't some of the metal I've played in and it's never occured to me, not even in my S4, to use it
I'll get you those prints Pods, worry not!Sleep... - that was the weekend I bought it, we went from Birmingham (where I bought it) to Liverpool where my band played The Cavern Club, then back home again. So big mileage the first weekend, and it was great for that. all with a full drum kit in the back, of course, too!
Do you mean truly one handed like you would a phone, or as in hold it with one hand and type with the other? It's really quite good! I tend to surf and click etc. one handed, then if I need to type anything longer than say 5 words I lie it down and touch-type two handed as I would a normal keyboard. Rather good, it is
It's good to know I'm not the only one who keeps track of everything, and always fills the tank just so he can track the economy figures! Relief

. I'm contemplating a B5 S4 in a few years' time, any owners have similar long-term economy figures? Hopefully somewhat better than 17mpg, but still, not sure I'd worry too much

Mmm, I'm actually a little like that too. I don't do very many miles so I don't actually care, if I get my B5 2.6 A4 to go below 20mpg over a whole tank I'd be rather proud of myself!marctwo said:

However, as Tony says, it's about the only bad thing about the car, that and the fact that the exhaust note could be a bit louder. Can you get an AMV8 type flap?
Mine seems to average about 25/26mpg on the motorway, although trying very hard I got it to 29.7 once. Round town is low teens and in heavy traffic single digits in not uncommon. I've named mine the 'V-Power Incinerator'.
I often feel it is not fast enough, but I think I am still getting used to the non-turbo power delivery. Taken out on my favourite back roads, it gets up to some silly speeds quite easily and when I came accross and new RS6 last month the S4 put up a pretty good fight too.
When I don't need the double buggy anymore, I'll think I'll chop it in for an RS3 Sportback as I have a real weakness for that 5 cylinder sound

Annoyingly, there's plans for a job for me where I'l need to do 25k a year and I get a car allowance of 17p a mile (or a company car). This thing costs me 28p in fuel alone. Certainly adds food for thought
Been a while since I did this but if you are paid mileage at below government rate, you used to be able to reclaim the difference in tax to make it up to government rate. In my last company we paid directors at 40p a mile which was the rate at the time (to save me the pita of yet another thing to reclaim) but employees got half that rate and details on how to get the difference back at the end of the tax year.McSam said:

I always know what it's like when I'm looking at what car to buy, and when people put stuff up I find it very useful, so hope it's equally useful to someone else
