U serious bro
I'm sure it might have been handy but £1.25 gets you a lot these days.
Just filled it up for the second time. First full tank did 645 miles and took 66 litres back to brim... giving 44.5mpg across the tank.
BTW it's a 66 litre tank! The range o metre had indeed just dropped to zero but I kind of presumed there would be some leeway like all my recent BMWs... there isn't. Be warned!

niggles are:
1) the door does not have a mid way notch when opened, so for it to stay in place while you get out, there is either not enough space (I'm not a chubster) or the door has to be right open, which is useless in tight parking spaces.
- Agree actually.
2) That damned DSG box.
- I'm getting on with it very well.
3) MPG is not as good as expected.
- I got 44 out of my first tank. Engine is tight, would expect it to loosen up a bit and improve.
4) Sat nav traffic is useless - it suggest crazy short journey times and doesn't seem to choose a route even when it knows about traffic.
- Yes agree. Routing is fine but the journey time is unrealistic, which is a bit crap. Android auto would sort that out with google maps though, hmmm.
5) Hesitation, hesitation, hesitation - there seems to be a slight delay to everything - I think it is a combination of a diesel with a large turbo, the start stop and the DSG box - this is definitely not a car suited to urban commutes (other than the ride height), unless it's in sports mode with the autostop turned off, but that doesn't help the mpg.
- I'm learning to drive around it. Touching accelerator a bit early to start the engine, learning how much you have to push the accelerator to get decent progress, using the paddle to downshift a gear or two on roundabout/corner entry, instead of waiting for the car to shift on roundabout exit.
6) Bright white headlining in an estate.
- Huh? What's wrong with that?
Things I love about it:
1) The ride and ride height - speed bumps no longer slow me down, and getting on and off the drive at my new house, where the pavement is not dropped along the whole width of the drive, is no longer a crawl
- Ride quality is excellent, and it also seems to go around corners very well. I'm very pleased with the ride/handling balance.
2) Massive boot - I had 250kgs of bagged gravel in the boot yesterday without having to put the seats down and there was plenty of space for more.
- Yup.
3) It is costing me peanuts.
- Oh yes indeed.
4) Massive inside.
- Aye.
5) On a motorway journey it just goes without fuss - just on the ACC and all you have to do it steer - there is plenty of space in the footwell to put your feet.
- ACC annoys me actually, even in the close setting the gap is too large for busy commutes. It's great in less busy traffic though. Although I do find I have to get into the overtake position much earlier than I'm used to in order for it not to engage and start slowing the car down.
Other positive things to add:
- I do like the modern tech in the car, it generally all works really well, touchscreen menus etc.
- Seats are very comfortable with all the adjustment you need.
- Curry hooks in the boot - awesome.
Negative:
- Don't like that the DRLs are the fog lights. I look like a FLW now.

Funnily enough two things happened today.
First, a lease booklet turned up with VWFS expectations of how the car should be looked after etc. It states that any modifications are my responsibility and when returning the car I should make good holes in the paintwork etc, but seeing as the towbar is unobtrusive I'll just crack on.
Oh and I ordered a westfalia detachable with electrics etc to be fitted next week, £400. Tidy. Will post pics when it's done.

Alltrack manual arrived on Friday.. Really impressed. Drivers seat is great, allot better than the Golf R it replaces.
A couple of things I cant work out. How do you get the passenger mirror to dip when reversing? Also, on previous cars the interior lights only went out when the car was started, on the Alltrack they go out as soon as you close the door - can this be changed?
Cheers
I asked this a while back. Is the spec on the manual Alltrack any different than the DSG version?A couple of things I cant work out. How do you get the passenger mirror to dip when reversing? Can't answer your questions unfortunately as I've not read the manual either, but I think my mirror dips. Press Car button on the screen and there are lots of setting in there.
Really enjoying the car but the sat nav is starting to grate to the point of me thinking did they do any usability testing at all wrt to postcode entry. Allow me a mild rant.
Click on satnav, then new destination, then click city. Then postcode. So far so normal.
At which point it brings up a numeric keypad... why!!! So you have to then click to change to qwerty, then enter two letters, then switch back to numbers, then enter numbers, BUT THEN YOU NEED TO PUT IN A SPACE AND THERE ISN'T ONE ON THE NUMBER PAD, so flick back to qwerty keyboard, then enter a space, then back to numbers, enter the numbers, then back to qwerty, then enter the final letters.
What a fking ballache. Why isn't there just one keyboard with numbers and letters ffs.

On the upside, has anyone noticed the distinct lack of torque steer? Been a while since I've had FWD but the last time was an Alfa which was pretty poor in that respect.
You are aware that the Alltrack is 4WD? Regardless, even in 4WD, power is transferred through the front wheels, which can result in torque steer.

I find I have to turn off the start stop and stick it in sport mode for entering busy roundabouts, otherwise you're dicing with death. Much of the time it feels pretty sluggish in normal mode. Mine is averaging 39mpg which is a long way from the claimed figure. Moan, whinge, moan, first world problems. Still very happy with it for the money!
Yes I'm toying with the car more now, done 2k in it so far.In D at constant speed, say, 50 or 60, even if you hit the accelerator it takes a second or so for the power to come on, is that turbo lag?! The car seems to need a short space of time to 'spool up' as it were.
Have to say overall I'm over the moon with it, just getting used to the characteristics of a diesel coming from a naturally aspirated V8 with instant throttle response!
