I test drove the RS4 Convertible on Saturday. Great Car, but...the Convertible is a 2+2, I sat in a Saloon and there is a lot more room in the back and half the boot isn't taken up by the roof. My thoughts are that if I want a convertible I may as well get a 997 because there is no difference in terms of space. I think the RS4 Convertible is going to take a hit for this reason (but what do I know?!). The Saloon however takes some beating as an overall package in my opinion, so it will be seeing my money!

There's something about Audi's and especially the RS variants but they just have to be Avants, is it just me or does anyone else thing like this.

I'd agree. I've had both the 1.8T S-Line saloon & avant. I prefered the styling of the Avant. Subtly stunning!

You're having a laugh. Space in the RS4 is much much greater than that in a 997. You have no chance of getting 2 adults in the back of a 997.

My point was that there is not enough space for 2 adults in the book of an RS4 Convertible, therfore you may as well buy a 997 as there is no space in that either.

The RS4 Saloon/Avant is a different matter.

The Saloon does nothing for me. Visually it's a chromosome off the Alan Partridge, blue anoraked, elbow on the window with index finger on chin, head tipping as they accelerate away wannabe 'scooby' brigade. The Avant has more class, but those front bumper vents....Audi are pushing it.

But there is. I've regularly had 4 adults in my car, I would have no chance if I'd bought a 997. A similar speced 997 C4S cab is about £20k dearer too.

I guess I just must be very tall (6'2" as I couldn't fit my wife behind me when I test drove it.) Don't get me wrong it is a great car but just not practical enough for me.

I don't think the new RS4 will hold its value anywhere near as well as the old model.

The old model was sold in smaller numbers & also offered huge potential to those wanting to tune them.

Every man & his dog nowadays can afford these cars nowadays what with the new fandangled methods of financing available.

Hobo - have to agree. With only 400 UK B5 RS4s, demand and therefore residual value, has remained high. I wonder how many B7 RS4's Audi are hoping to sell?

I went into the Audi showroom, and they tried to sell me a 2nd hand Audi RS4 for £52k or something similar with 8k miles on the clock. I asked what the price would be if I traded in my current S4 cab, which is less than 2 years old. They offered me less than 50% of the purchase price! I told them it was way too low, and that if Audi's depreciate like that, then I'd not be buying another one and walked out. A week later they called me saying they could do me a deal.

Trust me, RS4's are not being snapped up and these silly prices. The price will drop and its going to be soon, there are SO many of them. Im keeping my Audi S4 as its fab and don't need to waste money on a car with an engine with less torque than what i have already...its a bit like driving the M3, you have to drive it by testosterone to get it going, which is great at The Ring or so forth but then why not just get a track day car and what a track car you could get for £52k!!!

;-)

Audi RS4 will depreciate heavily unless its a limited edition like last time round.

I suspect it isnt so expect 50% minimum over 3 years / 40k miles.

I think at best they will be fetching £26k at that point.

Dont forget there are some superb new cars coming out such as new M3 (saloon & avant) plus RS6 and a new C63 AMG next year....

RS6's will be 20k next year imo. Now that will be a fine value purchase for a slightly comfier approach.

I own an Audi A8 and I wanted (in 2003) to buy a new RS6. Prices then were around the 55k-60k and the Audi dealer offered for my Audi a really, really STUPID price.

Really pissed off I bought my dream 80s Aston Martin Vantage Volante that has held its value beautifully

The Audi A8 is still doing its stellar job and it is still a great looking car.

RS6 prices? choice of colours and style for 25-30k now... thank you very much.

It is outrageous the amount of depreciation due to the selling policy of dealers and the furious introduction of new models any day. I love to spend money but I hate to throw it away. Therefore I went for a classic.

Will I buy a BRAND NEW Audi in the future? Never. They are so good and resilient that second hand is the only way to go if you are sensible with money. If you want the latest toy in town it is a different matter and a different personal choice.

If I were to loose a ton of cash on a new car it would have to be something very special, like an aston in fact. Ausi's and common cars are better bought used.

you should see the dealer personnel faces when I bring my wife in the Aston to collect the Audi after MOTs and servicing

it is a constant reminder of the deal they lost

conversely because they are so well built they are a good long term hold, audi's that is. I can see my keeping the RS4 for either just 2 years or for well beyond the 3 that is usual and you only notice the depreciation when you come to sell it. So two years will probably hurt more beacuse it'll be closer and fresher in my mind to when I paid for it.
Theres no logic in that just sentiment which lets face it is why we buy a nice car anyway really.
Plus why is there such a fuss about this with teh new RS4 the M3's and c55's lose about the same amount over the same peiod don't they?
