DrG and co, i assume S-line is just Speedline renamed?
Nope - just S-Line as far as I'm aware. Yet another one on the long list of Audisms smile

They shouldn't be chrome, they should be polished aluminium on your S4.

Usually known as "bling mirrors" biggrin
Tony's car is 2005 so probably has plastic mirrors, like mine. Earlier cars had the proper aluminium ones but these were just begging to be stolen.
Yay! Mine is a 2003 and has the aluminium Mirrors (not stolen yet) and I believe the earlier cars had aluminium roof rack rails and the later ones didn't?

Is this correct about the roof bars? Mine are definately solid ally and are rather nice.

I have an S-Line Quattro. S Line on the front grille, Quattro on the boot lid.
Cheers. Which car?

Quattro is a mechanical spec, S Line is a fit out spec and neither are dependant on the other.
Yes, thanks, I knew that. Just wondered which Audi deemed to be the more important factor when selecting which badge to attach to the grille.

(Thank heavens for PH - the only place where you could ask such a question and, not just get a sensible answer, but also not be ridiculed for wondering something so geeky/nerdy)
The full model title on my V5 is 'A6 2.7 Tdi Quattro S line Automatic'. Any more title would need a bigger form or a smaller font.

The non S Line grille is different and doesn't have the place to stick a badge. The badge thing is pure snobbery and I would be happy with no badges.
confused

Not all A6 S-Lines came with the fancy grille and 'kit.

Yessirree! Gives an extra few inches at the back!! Fnarr, fnarr! It means even 6 footers can stretch their legs without hitting the front seats. Takes longer to wash and polish though! Nearly 3ft longer than the A6 it replaced

This is going to confuse you....my Jan 2005 purchased '54 plate S4 Avant has (I think) got the ali mirrors - they are most definitely cold to the touch and certainly don't feel like plastic!

.....erm.....thanks for that insight, but not sure where that came from.

If you re-read the above, 'Raven Flyer' said that the non S-line grille was different (correct) and that it doesn't have the place to stick a badge (incorrect - non S-line grille with 'quattro' badge pictured above)

Audi do swap bits around quite a bit. Some Quattros have plastic bootlids, some do not, some have galvanised panels, some do not, with no apparent logic in terms of build sequence or specification.

The A6 in that picture above isn't an S-line.

This is an A6 Le Mans - an S Line with extra toys

As you can see, S-line badge on the front Quattro badge on the rear. Less chrome on the front than a regular A6, and sline embossed on the seats

edited ..there should be 4 pics!

I can't see Audi using chrome plated plastic for the S4 mirrors. After all, their not exactly into weight saving, are they.

Well I looked at a number of 03 cars before buying my 04 and I can certainly tell the difference. Mine are plastic and, whilst not nearly as nice as the proper aluminium ones, I sleep better at night knowing there is a higher chance they will still be connected to my car in the morning.

The mirrors were changed from aluminium to plastic for the 2005 MY in order to comply with pedestrian safety legislation. I had a 2003 B6 S4 saloon with aluminium mirrors, and a friend's late 2004 B6 S4 Cabriolet had the plastic ones. It was easy to tell the difference between the mirrors on the two cars when they were side by side.

When I was looking for an S3, I went to the dealership to view one and the mirrors were missing. The one I eventually bought had body coloured mirrors so I was never worried about it. At least if yours get nicked you can always buy them back on e-bay.
