Just though I'd ask you current above owners for your advice on this. A local private seller is offering me his black 5 dr fully loaded 56 plate mk v R32 with 36k miles and FVWSH for circa £12k.

I have to say its mighty tempting...

Any thoughts/suggestions would be most appreciated!

Many thanks

Price seems OK, they're due a big service at 40k with haldex and gearbox oil changes.

Ah but the owner has recently done the 40k service (which came to around £1k), despite still being under the mileage!

i think the only thing outstanding is the oil change which cannot be that expensive?!

As said above price is fair and it is due a major service at 40k miles which includes plugs, haldex oil & filter. If DSG the gearbox oil and filter also needs changing. Brake fluid needs changing every 2 years too so that may also need done as well.

to my memory the DSG filter and oil were the only two things which need to be changed..

At the moment that's £179 at the dealer

I should also say that it is mandatory it is done as per the recommendations as VW will not honour any warranty or goodwill claims if it is not. The DSG is a complex and sensitive piece of kit and you don't want to picking up the bill when it goes wrong

another thing to note is Rs are not shifting at the moment for obvious reasons so there should be plenty of room for negotiation

Indeed your right. The seller took the car off the market about a month ago as he did not get a good price for it and it is now kept in storage in London under a dust sheet!

I might ask him to send over the last service doc so I have a clear idea as what has been done...

There would be no warranty on the car being a 56 plate.

Even out of warranty VW can give goodwill upto 5 years if they car has been serviced exactly to their requirements. I have experience of this.

3 times? fk me that's good service wink

My golf was out of warranty by one day and they wanted me to pay them to fix a dodgy rear window washer, even though I'd made the booking before the warranty expired and they couldn't take the car in any sooner. s.

Yeah doesn't sound promising or give me massive peace of mind!

I think its best to ask the seller to send over the docs of the history of the car and see what hasn't been done which is due shortly...

Would £10500 be too cheeky offer?

Personally, I'd start at £10k and take some printed-off adverts with you of cars that are cheaper...

ETA: just checked classifieds and they acually seems top start at around 10.5k for high milers. Still, £10.5k would be a good start point and if you get it for £11250 that's ok.

Yep 5yrs/80k miles cut-off for goodwill I believe. I would take out the VW Extended Warranty. The Audi one is insanely costly.

ok cool i think start at 10500 then and see what he says? the worst he can only say p** off!!

I am struggling to find anything similar with the same spec:

56 plate 5 dr black
Fully loaded (sunroof, DSG, cruise, full leather but not the buckets, winter pack, Nav)
FVWSH

The seller may take around the 11k mark as you mention. Given the spec I feel that is a good price? I would never find an s3 with equivalent spec for this price!

If that's a straight car, I think £12k is actually a fair price with that spec/mileage/age.

If seller accepts less, then you've won a watch.
