Hello

We have just been lucky enough to be given a 2000 Audi A6 2.4 Estate by the in laws which will become our new family ferry.
it is a fairly low mileage @ 88k, an automatic and in very good condition, but it does have one issue; when the car is started from cold and you select drive it really wants to pull away to the extent you need to put quite a lot of pressure on the brake peddle to stop it, after a minute or two of running though it stops and returns to what you would expect from an auto, the urge to go and happy to crawl along but easily stoppable by light pressure to the brake peddle, the fault only happens for a minute or two and only when cold?

Can anyone offer any explanation??

Is it a 2.7T petrol quattro, you didn't say? If so its a tiptronic box which are usually solid and it could probably just do with an gearbox oil change.

If its fwd its a multitronic gearbox and at that age they can be a nightmare... have a read of this thread (make sure you're sitting down though) wink

Seems I was a bit wrong, it is a 2.4ltr V6 does that make a difference?

Thanks for the link, I will take a look.

Hmmmmm I hope it's a quatro tiptronic, not having got it yet I'm not 100% sure, it has a 4 speed auto box with the ability to drive it like a manual by pushing the selector right and then forwards and backwards to change up and down, a bit like a sequential box??

What is a multitronic box??

If its a 2.4 it's more likely to be a fwd, but I think they may have done a 2.4 quattro on the early models.

I think 2000 2.4s all have the tiptronic box. Multitronic didn't come unitl later.

Take it to an automatic transmission specialist. As an earlier poster said the gearbox may simply require an oil change.

However, it's a fairly complicated procedure I believe and fairly costly (ie. £200 ish).
