Looking at getting an Audi Q7 3.0TDi V6, ideally would like the 240bhp but there's quite a price jump from the 204bhp. The chipping companies seem to be promising the moon on a stick, taking the 204bhp to 250bhp+ and "improving economy". I'm not convinced you can have both but would be prepared to suffer a small loss of economy for the performance gain. No doubt, the 240bhp is pretty much the same mechanicals as the 204bhp so the improved bhp should be possible with a remap and the road tests for the 240bhp show only around 1mpg less than the 204bhp.

Anyone got any experiences of having a Q7 chipped, good or bad?

Chipping does improve power and economy, after being 'chipped' the engine runs at higher boost and therefore leaner. Obviously when you ask for more power than the original max output you burn more fuel than you used to, but for everyday driving you burn less.

I have a 2.0 tdi A6 that revo took from 140 to 185 hp. The trip computer used to show 48ish mpg at 70mph, it now shows 54 ish. I'm very pleased with the results.

Cheers Danger, that makes sense.

Quite a few have had the 3.0tdi engine chipped.

Dilligaf has had his various A8's chipped and has always got better economy and better performance

3.0 TDI does indeed respond very well to a little bit of tuning, with the heft of a Q7 the added torque would be very handy.

Thats set off my BS radar, not the boost bit, the leaner bit, fueling would be adjusted to match the boost hence sounds wrong to me and a lean engine is a recipe for big bills, certainly on a petrol anyway, care to expand on that?

Very; diesel tuning = more fuel. More fuel needs more air, more air comes from more boost.

chipping/remapping doesn't improve mpg, simple...

OBC are generally fooled depending how they calculate mpg.

Surely that's a sweeping statement that you cannot apply without knowing how the map is changed!

Change the map to run the engine leaner at normal operating revs and you would surely get more mpg,

The 3.0 TDi has been running at 240 bhp for years. Now they might have different injectors, etc. than a 205 bhp lump but they can definitely handle that amount of power.

A 4.2 TDi chipped is like driving something designed to turn the earth in the opposite direction (I.e. plenty of torque)

Nah min, Not much power gain (if any) if you up the boost of a diesel. Add fuel will give the diesel more power. Boost only allows more diesel to be burnt and kill smoke.

Standard remap is around +35bhp ish with that you could get away with no boost increase or at the very most 0.1bar increase just to kill any smoke.

And if you did that in a petrol it would DET, DET, DET........ bang!!

Ball licksbiggrin

Yes if the fuel pressure is increased you can cheat the OBC a bit, but there are loads of other ways to make the engine MPG friendly

I get approximately 10% more miles per tank than I used to before I had the A6 remapped. Fuel volume from the pump vs miles travelled confirms this. I also get more torque low down in the rev range.

You can't fake that.

As I said, I'm very impressed with the Revo remap.
