Iguana,
Stealthy! I like it ...
I presume the cut-out in the grille is functional?
A set of BBS RA's (or even better some 14" steelies) and it would be the perfect Q-car. I like that ALOT!
Oli.
Cheers Oli, yeh the single light grill is off a carb'd car & has a molded in blanking section, hence twas cut out & meshed in- thus lots of lovely cool air is diverted to the modified airbox. Some just remove the headlight on track, but I couldnt be arsed with all that, besides I like the power for the road too & thus don't need it unduely stiffled

For stone protection mesh is also below the grille front of the huge rad (the metal under grill bit & number plate area removed for more cooling) & all the way down to the lower panel for the nice big additional oil cooler too.
Not quite a chav-tastic as wire mesh I thought.
Tho some don't seem to bother & have no grief with exposed coolers it seems-

Actually anyway JC you cheeky bugger it was Homebase!

Wheels well ive got 5 dif sets!

Got 3 tatty sets of 15" alloys & I was gunna go 15" G60 steelys for a nice set, but only 6j wide & then I picked these clean 15" beautys up for £70- bargain

Tho I do also quite like the steathyness of the tatty old 16v alloys & my other tatty 15 inchers- like thise for example-

Police aware sticker 'chic' I think its called

Nice.
DIY tuning is great. I'm still trying to find some 80mm ducting. Can get the 100mm alu extractor fan stuff in Wickes and Homebase thought but it's a bit large! Arco do some -20 to +65C PVC stuff for ok money but their shops are miles away. I did find some flexible waste hose which in due course I might adapt for brake cooling

Hey Iguana,
What shocks would you recommend to replace mine with?
I've just fitted some Toyo Proxes on the front and they ROCK! so want to properly sort the thing out and really find the limits of the handling...I kept on the back of KingRSevens Caterham R1 and Daz's M5 through some very twisty stuff, so would imagine properly set up handling to be incredible...
Aren't you SW local - can you recommend a breakers for VW parts - I need a few interiory bits!

You just after shocks or the whole 9 yrds suspension wise?
I run the full Eibach set up- with the 'Pro- springs' 'Pro-dampers' & the bigger front & additional rear anti roll bars. (std rear ARB stays in the beam)
Massive improvement over standard (even 16v which is better than 8v) is night & day, oh and all the bushes- wishbones, rear axle etc are powerflex poly bushes.
IMHO its firm but absolutley bloody perfect for road & still ok for light track, tho its too soft for heavy track & esp when i run the slicks, some guys run 3 times harder springs rate than me & still want to go harder!
If on tight budget I'd say use sachs sporting (Gas) or Boge turbo gas shocks with Eibach or H&R springs.
I've got the Sachs on an 8v gti runabout & its a decent ride- lots better than stock, but with normal 8v GTi springs- decent springs would improve it no end.
If even tighter budget, just use either of those shocks with standard springs (or use 2nd hand 16v springs) thso the springs will make all the diference.
Or maybe try that full Boge kit one of the retailers sells- think its GSF? (i have no personal experience of that kit tho) can't advise the Budget Bilsten kit tho as ive had one & the springs sag & mate did the same- the shocks are ok tho.
If you have a few more quid then use Koni adjustable shocks with Eibach or H&R springs. That is perhaps the best suspension set up on a reasonable budget.
If lots of spare ££ then can think of fully adjustable coilovers (the purely height adjustable ones are a waste of cash IMHO)
You are more than welcome to have a ride in either of mine some time, to see what the rides like.
Breakers I can't help with im afraid, my local guy who has loads of bits, seems to have gone into hiding!
Mechanical bits you can try DesignaDubs in basingstoke, they have loads of stuff, dunna about trim tho, but maybe worth a call anyway.

Being a wuss (and having the valver as a daily driver), what are the chances of any of these setups giving better handling AND better ride quality? Although having said that, it looks as though the springs on (especially the rear of) mine are so sagged, just standard replacement parts would probably do both of those.

Ah well better handling sure, but better ride quaility- well yes assuming you dont actually want it softer....
Decent new gas shocks & new O.E 16v springs would be ace, altho its a great set up as standard when its all new, but using decent aftermarket shocks would IMHO be even better- I know a chap who did just that as it was his every-dayer & didnt want it too harsh & he loved it.
Also if you did do that, you could always just change to aftermarket springs at a later date if you felt like it, Eibach & H&R stuff is not really that harsh anyway, tho it is pleasantly firmer than stock.
Was a good day of hooning.
