Hi,1995 mk3 vr6
Four questions that i require help with please.
1.This is the second vr6 that i have owned,1995 i recall that there was a fault on the early mk3's.The rear screen water seal failed and the door rusted from within, this was paid for by vw.
My new car has the same fault but now vw claim they have no knowledge of this fault and there is no recall notice.

2.The dash lights are not working even though the manual dimmer is correctly set,but the mileometer is lit, checked fuses but everything ok.

3.The mfa trip recorder is not working at all.

4.Temp gauge, slow traffic driving gauge slow to react but then records approx 70 degrees.During faster normal driving the temp drop's to the lowest mark on the gauge, checked the wiring, switch and fuses everything ok.Spoke to the previous owner, never any overheating issues.

Any thoughts or ideas gratefully received.

Thanks
John

Point 4 - Engine temp.

That sounds like the thermostat is stuck open. Take a look at this - www.ehow.com/how_7683_tell-cars-thermostat.html and basically reverse what's being said here.

Just for information, all the VR6s and GTis I owned in the past, the temp gauge would sit dead centre nearly all the time. In fact, I had one 16V MK3 that did overheat and the gauge still didn't move past centre, but an overheat red light did light up on the dash!

Finally - Golf VR6 - probably one of the best cars I've ever owned.

Hope that helps.
