I'm going to look at a Golf V6 4Motion tomorrow but it has the Wood pack, are they easy to change to, say, a carbon fibre look instead? Do these replacements even exist??

You help will be greatly appreciated!

Make sure that both fans work correctly. With the climate control set to AUTO, both fans in the engine should run on slow speed. If they do anything but this then they need to be replaced. Approx £100 each + labour.
Also that the haldex oil and filter has been changed at regular intervals.
Listen out for rear axle knocking too as changing the bushes is a pain.

Thanks for the info Vee, what are people experiences with them, I guess they get through petrol quite quickly but anything else worth knowing about?

I had one for a few years and reckoned it a good all rounder rather than a sporting car. Plus points were the smooth engine, 4wd grip and good standard spec. Bad points were soggy handling, brakes were only average and I know what you mean about the wood! yuck

I had a few more issues than expected such as multiple MAF sensor failures and an appetite for plugs plus some dash gauge problems but nothing major or expensive. I got 22-28mpg in mixed driving; you can just get it to 30 on a gentle cruise.

IMHO they are good but not great cars and very good value these days.

we have a 4 motion and would love to replace the classy wood look with a more sober spun ally or carbon - any links to replacement packs / parts?

thanks

I've found the aluminium kit from the R32 on eBay for about £150 but not managed to find a carbon-look kit yet, seriously thinking about going for the 4Motion now, they've dropped the price by £500!
