Hi all,

Friend of mine is emmigrating and is selling his Golf TDI 115. It an X reg so either 2000 or 2001. It's an import as he used to live in Luxembourg so he bought from there and has had it fom new, it is full UK spec though and VGC. All the extras including leather seats, air con etc. I think it has done under 40,000 miles too with full VW service history. Any idea how much it's worth? I may make him an offer, he is due to leave in 3 months so he will want to sell then then. Also has anyone any idea what the MPG and performance figures are for this car?

thanks in advance.

Speaking from experience they are quit nippy (relatively of course). Used to get great MPG, anthing from 45mpg winter to 55mpg avg. in the summer mixed driving. On a motorway run, high 50's nudging 60.

Heavy on ball joints etc, make sure it drives without any knocking. Make sure it's been fed with the right PD oil.

Watch out for the 40K (yes 40) cambelt intervals. If it's coming up to that it will be due one on time alone, if not really its second. So budget for camblet, waterpump and thermostat.

Had one of these great car - very economical and 6th gear @70mph give 1850rpm (they changed the gearing for the GTTDI 130 making the gears shorter and therefore less economical). Long M Way trips I'd be low to mid 60's all the time with a best ever of 74mpg.

Performance 5 door is 10 seconds to 60 - but its in gear where this really shows, its also a very very peaky unit the 130tdi was smoothed out a bit.

Gearbox is good but on cold mornings I struggled to get it into 2nd but after half a mile it was fine.

Some came with 5 speed mine was 6speed.
Value wise.... well if you look on A.T. currently you will see that there are Mk5 Golf GT TDI 140's 5 door with 90-110k 54 reg for £5k W reg is 4 years older again, I personally think they are worth at most £2.5k but seeing the dross you get at that price range it might be more like £3k. Remember a 130tdi 52 reg will be easy to buy at £3.5k and that is a newer and better car & not an import - although as your buying it as a keeper import issue might not concern you.

Final note - import car will be much more to insure, if you over 25 this baby should be no more than £250p.a. to insure full comp mine went as low as £200 at the end.
