Little help/advice please!! 2001 ibiza 1.4 s

oh behalf of a friend at work. his car Was coughing and splutting etc, took it to garage, all the valve seals are aparently gone.... which they rekon will cost £1200 for a new head and all labour etc. any ideas where we can find a price for one ourself? we willing to work on it ourselves as we are engineers.

any help much appreciated!
