Audi TT 3.2 v6 dsg

Looking at getting one of these as a bit of summer weekend car, my local garage has a 2004 3.2tt v6, it's done 79,000, I'm gonna pop up and have a look later, what should I be looking at and what sort of specific Audi questions should I be asking?
He's asking £6,900 for it.

The big issue with the DSG, is the megatronic control unit which has been known to fail (costs +£2.5k to fix). Contact an Audi dealer and find out all the correct servicing intervals for the DSG and Haldex systems. Then check that the CARS Service History has been properly adhered too or just buy Manual like me.
Is there a local AUDI Dealer near where you could get the car checked over, you would be charged for a pre-sales inspection but it could save you thousands. Look on the Audi TT 8N Forum for tips and suggestions.

For general TT pointers the subject crops up every few weeks on here with lots of very useful posts from owners. I'd make a cup of tea and have a good look through.
citizen smith makes a very relevant point too; the mechatronic module on these is weak and expensive to replace. They often don't play up until the car is very hot, either. Difficult to spot on a short test drive/inspection.

My 2004 A3, 3.2 with almost 79,000 miles (same engine as TT) had the camchain tensioner fail, which I understand is not uncommon. I was initially quoted £1400 to repair but in the end got most of it on 'goodwill'. However this was a few years ago and I had bought it new from the dealer involved so goodwill may not be as 'good' now?
Recently it has developed a problem with the aircon failing (compressor?) that I'm told is also not uncommon, I've not resolved it yet but it maybe worth considering?
On the other hand the DSG has been fine (so far)...

If really concerned about the potential for ruinous bills, have a look on the audi extended warranty web site or some of the better indy warranties and consider the cost vs the risk of a big bill you'd find hard to swallow if it rendered the car undrivable.
The DSG/s-tronic boxes do get more reliable as time goes on, but there seems to be a gap in the market for someone able to rebuild them rather than just replace. The mechatronic unit is probably the easiest fix where the box is concerned!
If it drives fine and doesn't shunt in auto when dropping from 2nd to 1st and selects drive and reverse quickly then there's probably nothing to worry about

I had a 1.8T 225 remapped TT
Good car, but in standard form the handling is wooly, the v6 also sits higher, so I would be tempted to get lowering springs and R32 Arb's. The Arb's aren't known to last anyway
I then also had a 3.2 V6 DSG in R32 form
It was a peach of an engine, could have handled alot more power. Not the quickest, but it's quick enough and sounds awesome, although not sure the TT would sound the same, so maybe require an exhaust upgrade
I would take it off variable servicing and go for annual oil changes

I've not owned both, but had the 1.8T (225) and have driven the V6.
If yoiu're looking for a car that's good to drive, then neither will hit the mark, but the 1.8 is better. The heavier V6 makes it understeer even more than normal. And it also means you don't get any more power per tonne.

at last check i think VW had made 3m of them, so there will have been some failures... The 3.2 TT was the first implementation, so probably the weakest in terms of quality control, and most likely to have issues. Given the cars still have value I would guess the failure rate now is not that high now, as those likely to have issues will have been fixed by now.Thanks for being patient!

could well be an original audi car, then a manager car so that's 2 owners in a short space of timeI'll keep looking!
then works out about 2 owners every 2 years isn't unlikely for a less practical car
i've only had my s4 for several months, it was never a keeper, more that i wanted to try it
We had an '06 3.2 with DSG for about 2 years. Loved it, great fun, sounded great. Cost us about £240 a month to keep on the road before insurance & petrol.
Major costs were... cat failure, front shocks, rear springs, front and rear arb.
Eventually px'd it when it developed a fault that could be £300 of sensor or new ECU. It also had an intermittant fault that hadn't shown up for about 6 months where a spirited get-away that triggered TC would drop the DSG into neutral which required key off-on to reset. This usually happened when pulling out into a main road. Audi unable to find a fault and resetting the systems seemed to resolve it.
Barring the intermittent DSG issue none of the issues were 3.2 v6 or DSG specific though. Much as we loved the car (it was the wife's daily driver) it was a bit of a lemon.
With the insurance, fuel and £20pa tax the finance on our current A3 works out cost-neutral in comparison to the TT...

I've just bought a 2008 3.2 V6 TT DSG with 87k miles and was wondering how it's possible to tell if the DSG oil change schedule has been adhered to?
I don't collect it until Sunday so don't have the SH booklet yet, is it actually detailed in there?
Do Audi keep electronic records (ala Mercedes) of the exact work carried out on a particular car?

Electronic records? if serviced by VAG dealers? VIN or No Plate will reveal all including your DSG oil changes.I don't collect it until Sunday so don't have the SH booklet yet, is it actually detailed in there?

Booklet doubles up/confirms servicing, if VAG!!
If not VAG, then buyer beware, sorry!!
