Get mine in April, should be able to compare and contrast vs Golf R.
Get mine on the 20th so not long now. Wanted red calipers when I ordered it as it looks really good with black, but could not justify the £350.00 cost, so I am going to paint them myself. Will post pictures when done.IJB1959 said:

You sure that's the most cost effective way as you will have to put them back to black with the s sticker on when you are done surely?TomScrut said:
Fair dos! Make sure you take plenty of pics first so you know where that sticker goes!
Yep. Did this before with an SLK, no issues at all when it was returned. Just can't get my head around Audi justifying £350.00 for a red painted option, but I guess the real profit is in the options list of which most buyers will choose something or another depending on their budget/repayments.PorkInsider said:
Still waiting for mine to arrive but looking forward to comparing it to my current 330d.
I too am coming from a 330d. I have had mine for 2 years and it is a great car, and plenty quick too. But after 6 diesel cars i really fancied a revvy petrol again, and something with a bit more 'character'.My initial comparison from a test drive of the S5 is that it is a step up in terms of quality and technology without doubt. The power delivery is different (its actually down on torque compared to the 330d), but it is far more enjoyable to drive, i loved it, just the sound of the thing put a huge smile on my face!!

Love the torque diesels have, and like you coming from a diesel albeit MB C class. The Audi is much better refind than an MB, though I will still miss it even though the reliability was awful. Even had to have complete new engine after just 30k.My initial comparison from a test drive of the S5 is that it is a step up in terms of quality and technology without doubt. Thing is I am very skeptical of option prices and their supposed residuals. I think they look to give you nothing for extras when trading the car in and charge as much as they can for them when selling the car on which to me is unfair. They claim "extras aren't worth anything" yet you don't see cars lined up with different specs (but all else equal) with identical prices. They just make money on options over and over again.TomScrut said:

I think this is how the likes of MB, BMW, VW/Audi group etc fool you with list base pricing first and then the options to stay competitive. Other equivalent segment manufactures have fully specked cars without the long options list at much lower prices of around 40k. Would you buy a fully specked S5 if options did not exist at around 60k??.....probably not. And like you say, most options are rarely considered in a trade in.IJB1959 said:

Yes I have no issue with them charging for the extras. It's just making out they are worth nothing when trading in (or taking a lease) that annoys me. Like all our S5s of varying specs will make the same price at auction in 2 years or when they make to dealers they will be the same price. The metallic paint will fetch more, the VC cars will too no doubt, along with some others. Yes carbon ceramics on a TT RS aren't going to hold anywhere near their £4k or whatever price but I doubt anyone who ticks that box cares about residuals somehow. But a lot of the options aren't crazy money for the benefit they give. The driver assistance pack on the S5 is dear though for what it is.TomScrut said:

Well you pay ur money & take your choice I suppose. On another note though, in the showroom of my local dealer, all Quattro's on display have the Quattro decal sticker either side before the rear wheel on the 2 door coupes (TTS & RS's & S5's) and on the S5 Sportback at the bottom of the rear door. It actually looks quite cool IMO, what do you think...naff or not? will try and get a photo for opinions.IJB1959 said:

Well here are the photos. No S5's on display at the moment, only a S4 & S3 but you get the idea. What do you recon?
BTW, they are an option after delivery at my dealer.

Just had my delivery date confirmed for next Thursday. (16th March)
Still not test driven one. The garage had one in but it has a fuel leak...
Great! mine quoted as the 20th. When you get it you really WONT be disappointed, probably a bit more exciting having not driven one yet TBH.Still not test driven one. The garage had one in but it has a fuel leak...
Yeah, they've offered me a test drive at another North East garage but I'm just going to wait.
Although my excitement has been tainted a bit now that I have had a Range Rover VOGUE as a courtesy car for the last week following my Evoque's warranty work. Now thats a hell of a machine.

Yes it is a great machine, LR are unreliable though. Once you have your S5 you won't be looking back trust me.Although my excitement has been tainted a bit now that I have had a Range Rover VOGUE as a courtesy car for the last week following my Evoque's warranty work. Now thats a hell of a machine.
